Confused about playing styles, help!

After months of playing the game and leveling up a bow/bow stam nightblade in solo pve, i decided to join a guild and learn pvp. I’ve researched builds, group tactics, etc... and realized I had a lot of improvement to do. So I ended up copying alcast’s nightblade stam build and have been learning to play with a rotation and weaving.

BUT playing this new way is making me all kinds of grumpy. Im totally willing to go with it tho, if it gets better results in the end, but can somebody explain to me why my previous method of playing wasn’t as effective?

Here’s what I used to do: sneak up, snipe to stun, spam snipe until someone got too close, then draining shot to knock them back and then dark cloak to heal. Now that I’m using Alcast’s skill setup with the weaving I can see how the AoE effects really help, but the second multiple enemies converge on me, I’m dead. There’s no immediate heal aside from potion and there’s no knock back. Is it that the Alcast build is designed for pvp and I would have to worry about those things less in a group? Or maybe I’m just on a brutal learning curve?

The frustrating part is I really want to understand the dynamics of why my old style of play doesn’t work as well, but I often get lost in the lingo on the forum posts. Help!

NPC to PC

Let me preface this by saying this is not a criticism, and its not another "what I would like to see in ESO" thread. It's a technical question born out of my own ignorance of how to build a game like ESO.

If a non player character exists, so the art and movement is in place, what are the challenges of making that 'skin' available as a new race? So if (just making this up) a blue skinned 3 eyed being was standing by a dungeon entrance giving out quests as an npc, what gets in the way of making the 'race' of that being available as a race of player use?

Thank you for tolerating and educating the unknowing.

undo bug

Has anyone had this happen on the PTS yet? I havent been able to find any post where zos acknowledges that they know about it. And i didnt see anything in the patch notes about it. Its not priority number one but its an annoying bug that gets me killed on a daily basis so im curious if there is a fix in its future, since it has been happening since before wrathstone.

And to clarify, what i mean is the bug where you use undo and it eats your ult and gives you nothing but aggravation. It can also stick you into walls but thats another story.,

Matriarch Change Compromise: Why Not Instead Buff Tormentor?

$

I feel that they should have made adjustments to the Tormentor morph because the heal is the reason everyone used the Matriarch. ZoS has a habit of nerfing one morph because of its popularity instead of fixing the problems with the other morph that keep it from being used. I feel that a more reasonable compromise between the two morphs is needed:
Matriarch: Deals reduced damage to enemies (compared to base form)
Activated Ability - Heals you, itself, and 1 nearby ally

Tormentor: Deals the same damage to enemies (compared to base form)
Activated Ability - Heals both you and itself
With this change both morphs provide the defensive utility that the Twilight was designed for with players being able to choose between a more selfish, offensive variant (PvP /DPS) or a more defensive variant (Healer). Since the heal is now present on both morphs but the combat effectiveness isn't, players always get the heal they are looking for and can choose to what degree they need the additional heals or damage, giving both morphs value. Everybody wins!

Living Dark

The reduction in healing power on living dark was absolutely necessary to balance the ability.

However, now that the heal has been reduced to a reasonable value, it’s become apparent that the duration of the ability is too short, causing the ability to behave like a burst heal (similar to how rapid regen and resolving vigor act as burst heals). Magicka Templar already has 2 burst heals in its toolkit with Rushed Ceremony and Healing Ritual.

I would suggest that increasing the duration to 8 or 10 seconds and balancing the heal around that duration would help reduce the redundancy in the Templar toolkit.

Evaluating the best attack ability.

So what is the approach to evaluating the best attack ability? I'm not so much looking for Mage Fury is better than that other spell, but a more general rule I can use in the future.

I'm assuming that damage is not the only important stat. Casting time and resource cost must also matter? I guess I could look at how much damage I could do divided by casting time, but then the instant casts do infinite damage per second?

Any help?

Can We Just Rework Sorcerers Already?

People don’t like the way sorcerer plays, I for one don’t like playing sorcerer in its current state and the shields aren’t a good enough defense especially after the new patch. The whole class should be overhauled to be the “mobile shock mage” and not be a walking Jurassic Park. Maybe add some kind of class heal and some healing passives, some stam morphs, maybe a shock damage spammable. Just some ideas for the class to fit the theme of the shock mage.

The Ethics of Fake Tanking

$

We've all been there...we queue up for a random dungeon and end up with the 13k health, bow/bow light attacker tank. Mabye they're a level 15 that sincerely doesn't understand dungeons--if so, be kind and explain. Or maybe they're just a crappy player who wants to skip the queue--plenty of those max cp power levelers out there who think they can hang because overland content is training wheels difficulty. And of course they do it--most people are too passive to kick someone who is gaming the queue.

But, when done right, fake tanking can be a good thing for the random NORMAL (vet is a different story) queue, but if--and only if--1) these fake tanks bring the bare minimum of the tank role to the party, and 2) other players stop being afraid to kick a horrible fake tank.

First, here are the skills a fake tank needs to bring to the party:
1. A taunt (at the very least inner fire, but how hard is it to slot a shield on one bar for puncture?)
2. 20k health. A tank getting 1 shot in normal dungeons is pathetic
3. some basic crowd control (most classes have some of this, but if not there's ice staff WoE and fighter's guild silver leash
4. Enough armor, resists, self- heals, sustain to not die. Basically every class has access to major resolve and some heals; slot them
5. The ability to hold the boss/elite enemies in one place (so don't be Dragon Leaping stuff out of the aoe, fake DK tanks)
6. Some dps of your own. Don't fake tank a dungeon as a dps and do tank-level dps (i.e. 4k or so)

That's it. That's not much of an ask to skip a queue...if players are too lazy to wait in the queue, at least be able to do some of what a tank should do. This helps to address the tank shortage without completely rewarding queue jumping, and let's face it, a tank isn't really needed in norms (but at the every least someone needs to taunt and CC stuff).

FOR THOSE OF US ENDURING THE FAKE TANK: If they're doing the basic job of a tank and contributing some dps of their own, let them stay. At the least, they recognized that they aren't a tank build and care enough to do some of the job while helping the team clear the dungeon faster. And if they're clearly new to the game, I beg you, be kind and explain to them. They're probably desperate to learn, and there's a lot to know in this game that isn't well-explained with no previous MMO experience.

BUT PLEASE START KICKING HORRIBLE FAKE TANKS. PLEASE. Don't be a jerk about it, but please recognize It's for the best for everyone. I know there are so many non-confrontational people around that this is unrealistic, but we can't just keep rewarding crap behavior. In what setting are people allowed to cut in line without getting sent to the back? Jerks thrive on the knowledge that lots of people will just take crap rather than say something, and this enables the behavior.

TLDR; We should expect fake tanks to perform at least some of the role (at the very least, slot a taunt and don't die), or we should stop being passive and kick them (except for new people, we should teach them the ropes). I'm more irritated by groups that refuse to kick than the horrible fake tanks themselves at this point . Refusing to kick someone who has proven to be a horrible fake tank basically says "I'm ok with this person skipping the queue, and I don't care that the other 2 players are going to have a bad time. Let's carry this fake tank instead of standing up for ourselves."

NOTE: I never, ever advocate kicking people based on their level, class, race choice, etc. Always give people a chance to perform.

Grim focus/Shade nerfs

Do not have access to pts, so im wondering how are these abilities doing? Since snb nerfed, grim focus' importance took a hit and now the mitigation also nerfed, how does it feel? There is still that huge bow damage to take in consideration too.

Shade had a big dps boost but now cost got higher and damage got lower, how is it? Im guessing it still worth to slot because it cost magicka anyway and caltrops got nerfed.

I play on the 30-day CP Campaign. I wonder if anyone knows what rank (position) on the leaderboard you need to be at the very least in order to get the top 2% gold jewelry rewards?
I assume if you reach maybe rank 50, this is possible for gold jewelry? I don't know how to tell how many people are in the campaign, so I cannot mathematically figure the answer out.

Vvardenfell Furniture Plan Drop Rates

$

I am sure many of my fellow furniture crafting enthusiasts have experienced first-hand the frustration of obtaining Vvardenfell-only furnishing plans, especially the purple ones.

I have been recording data from my many Hleran Tomb clears. There are about 70 filled urns per clear. From June 5th to July 2nd I cleared Hleran Tomb 455 times, which is about 31,850 urns opened.

As of Update 14 we have several furniture plan loot tables:
Global: all the common, Breton, Redguard, Orc, Dark Elf, Nord, Argonian, High Elf, Wood Elf, and Khajiit plans
Vvardenfell: Ashlander, Dres, Hlaalu, Indoril, Redoran and Telvanni plans.
Dwarven: all the Dwarven plans
Daedric: all the Daedric plans
Special: plans that are obtainable from only one source. For example: the Wood Elf Throne, Vine plan from nobles in Grahtwood.

There aren't any problems with the Dwarven, Daedric and Special plan loot tables as they all have specific sources.

There is a problem with the Global and Vvardenfell plan tables. More specifically, the fact that Global plans are found in Vvardenfell way way too often.

In the 4 weeks of data I have collected so far I have looted the following plans:

45 White Global Plans
382 Green Global and 75 Green Vvard Plans (about 5 Global: 1 Vvard)
134 Blue Global and 22 Blue Vvard Plans (about 6 Global: 1 Vvard)
18 Purple Global and 4 Purple Vvard Plans (about 4.5 Global: 1 Vvard)

So, I loot ONE purple Vvardenfell-only plan once a week. There are 116 Vvardenfell-only purple plans (not sure if any fall into the Special source category or not). So, at my current loot rate it will take 116 weeks to loot them all (assuming you trade duplicates for unknown).

That is ridiculous!

I think there might be purple Vvardenfell plans that no one on the server has found yet!

What I think should be done to make this MUCH less frustrating for furniture crafters:
  • Remove the white global plans from the loot tables completely! These are available on npcs vendors and there is no need for them to also drop!
  • Remove the Breton, Redguard, Orc, Dark Elf, Nord, Argonian, High Elf, Wood Elf and Khajiit plans from the Vvardenfell loot table. This leaves the common and Vvardenfell only plans in the overall plan loot table OR give the Vvardenfell plans a very large bias. As is for every 1 global plan I should loot 1 Vvardenfell plan.
  • Add random furniture envelopes with Vvardenfell-only plans to the Master Writ vendor to give us an alternative to opening 1000's of urns to get our Vvardenfell plans.

I know that ZoS needs to make money from players buying the Crown Store furniture and having the plans exceptionally rare will technically increase the revenue from Crown Furniture. There needs to be a balance though. Furniture mats are already rare and needed in large quantities for EACH piece of furniture. This means lots of time or gold needs to be invested. People will still buy Crown Furniture because they don't have the time or gold to craft it. You are only frustrating and angering furniture crafters and housing enthusiasts with the difficulty of looting Vvardenfell plans. I ask and my guildmates ask "Can anyone craft _____?" on a daily basis and the answer is almost always "No". It gets rather depressing.

There are Crown Exclusive furniture items already which people will buy. Perhaps to compliment their crafted furnishings...but what is the point of buying some Amber Jellyfish Lights if you have no furniture in your house and if you spend crowns on the craftable furniture then you don't have enough for the awesome Amber Jellyfish Lights:( Since nearly all players do not have unlimited money to spend on Crowns.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please seriously consider changing the current loot tables for Vvardenfell furniture plans.

Fellow mage, what house you use as "mage tower"?

Do you use Grand Psijic Villa which reside in the legendary Artaeum?

The Observatory Prior in miraculous Clockwork City?

Perhaps floating Coldharbour Surreal Estate in dreadful Oblivion plane?

Or just something like Mara's Kiss Inn Room which near the wayshrine, Snugpod which near the dailies area?

Actually it doesn't matter you use it or not, my real question is which place do you think has the best mage resident feel? I really like Frostcrag Spire from Oblivion, I think the closest one in ESO is The Observatory Prior. However I didn't visit all house yet, is there any house you guys recommended?

Maelstrom Arena QoL Suggestion

I've done the Maelstrom Arena more times than I'd like to admit, and I've yet to receive a fire destruction staff.

Wouldn't it be kind of nice to get a token every time you complete it that allows you to buy the weapons out right after you acquired a certain amount of tokens? Say, five or ten?

I'm not suggesting that they drop from normal or become easier, but just a little bad luck protection. I've literally done the maelstrom arena upwards of fourty or more times, and it's just getting boring now.

ESO gaming on Tablet

Does anyone currently (2019) play ESO on a tablet? I know it's definitely doable on a laptop but I really need to find out if any tablets can handle the demand of ESO.
Any leads or info is helpful, thanks ;)
