Eventual Update of Vanilla Content

$

0
NOTE: This is not a priority. This is something I would like to see 2-3 years down the line that ZOS could work on in the background while they focus on New content & Performance updates.

Base game content looks drastically lacking in comparison to DLC for two reasons.

1. Computer limitations; While the game was released about 5 years ago, it was being developed just after Oblivion released. ESO was dealing with different operating systems, such as Windows 7, during its development and the player base had lower quality hardware as well.

2. Inconsistent art direction; ESO had a different art direction in its earlier years in comparison to today. Back in 2014 ESO had a noticeable overly simple and “cartoon” aesthetic - sometimes with unfocused & unfinished concept art that exaggerated proportions in Gear, Architecture, and Landscape. That direction was altogether abandoned when it came to future installments. Expansion Zones take realism and detail into account. This is VERY noticeable when comparing Vanilla Dark Elf zones - Stonefall & Deshaan - to Vvardenfel

There are four major reasons that the Vanilla content needs a rework
  1. The game is moving to New Generation consoles. Meaning that it is no longer held back by old software & hardware.
  2. Some of the races are never going to get a zone focused expansion. Races such as Bretons & Wood Elves are not going to get an expansion because Daggerfall and Valenwood already have zones. Meaning that we are are stuck with an outdated version that doesn't live up to the lore. ZOS could take what they learned and apply it to old zones.
  3. Apply the "Recreate" Philosophy to places like Morrowind and Skyrim. If ZOS is going to take the time & effort to meticulously recreate a zone from the single player games as we have seen with places such as; Gold Coast, Vvardenfel, and now Western Skyrim than that design philosophy should be applied to the vanilla game as well.
  4. Eventually ZOS is going to have to direct players to the vanilla game for clear story direction. While the Chapters & DLCs look fantastic, the game revolves around the base content, so after the player is done with the expansion they are going to have to go to vanilla eventually. As time passes the story of ESO will get longer and more complicated and many players are already seeking to start at the base game in order to understand what is going on. I am sure that the developers would like their old content to leave just as good of an impression as their new content.

ZONES
In what ways do Vanilla zones need a rework?

Although this style was thankfully dropped we can still see echoes of this design in the vanilla base game.

The gradual change is to make Elder Scrolls Online to look more like Elder Scrolls Offline

Skyrim
Eastmarch
The Windhelm we have in ESO would be more visually captivating if it used the Windhelm design we see in Skyrim. The in-game explanation would be that the Nords are rebuilding their city from the old plans drawn up by their ancestors.

Morrowind
In terms of landscape both zones just need the same - thought, effort, & detail as Vvardenfel. The rocks needs to be redone as does the flora placement design.

Concerning Mournhold I am not saying completely change the city - but update the some of the Architecture along with the Textures and Flora. Mournhold is known as the "City of Light and Gems" it should be on par with Vivec City & Clockwork City.
In-game lore explanation? Almalexia is renovating her city particularly her Palace. Make it so it is less dark and stands out among the rest of the buildings

Valenwood
In my opinion Valenwood is one of the regions with the most need of a review. (EDIT: Along with other places such as most DC zones) The overall problem with the Valenwood zones is that none of them are particularly distinct from one another (save for maybe Reaper's March) and can feel generic. Most of Valenwood feels like a large open space with trees & flora that are few and far between. Which doesn't feel right for a place like Greenshade which is supposed to be "A Jungle at it's most Primeval". The simple thing to do would be to edit the vegetation and make the zones feel more alive.

However if ZOS wanted to completely re-design the zone...
Do you want to know why Selene's Web is one of my favorite dungeons? It is one of my favorites because it actually feels like I am in Valenwood - sure it has an atmosphere of Selene's influence but it still feels like I am in an actual Valenwood forest.
Imagine if Grahtwood or Greenshade took after its design as a multi layered zone - with an atmosphere of a Forest that is Vast & Ancient.
At first the forest maybe doesn't seem large but as you venture you find that you can literally drop down to the very bottom roots of the forest as well as spiraling branches that takes players to the upper regions of the trees
With Networks of tunnels in the open world, vertical landscape exploration design where players could go literally deeper into the forest - all with no loading screens - that could make the zone a fun place to explore with the new "Antiquities" system of Greymoor
If ZOS needs financial insensitive to do this they could remodel the already existing zone as a free update and make the 2-3 levels below ground as DLC

The Concept art for Valenwood was the most ambitious and the least utilized. Imagine these pictures as the levels that players descend in the forest. From the bright leaves and blooming flowers to the dark gnarled roots covered in muck with all manner of creature hiding down there.

MOTIFS
Vanilla Motifs are outdated in that they have poor textures & meshes and don't change for the Beast races.
Newly released styles have High details, high quality textures, and will change depending the race wearing it.

The vanilla motifs need an update. Redguard and Orcs received one over four years ago. The other races such as Nords, Dunmer, and Altmer could all use an update as well.

MODELS
Player models could use an update.
Noticeable Polygons could be smoothed out and Textures could be improved.
For the standard model - the Face has high textures but the rest of the body is lacking them which can be a problem for player customization as it makes some options like scars or burns look blurry.

Other Examples:
Creatures
Certain creatures like summonable Daedra have outdated textures & meshes. Someone was able to get a good shot of their recent pet Cliff Strider with the Clannfear

The Player Werewolf model is outdated which became easy to see when compared to the textures & detail of the hulking werewolf model

Closing statement
That was a sample of areas in the base game that I think could use a visual improvement and specifically what aspects.
I would like to re-iterate that this is not a priority right now but it is something that I think ZOS should look at if they are not already working on it.
If you read the whole thing then thanks for taking the time.

If you have any feedback or thoughts on what of vanilla you think needs to be improved then feel free to discuss below

Okay, I'ma try keep this brief.

This is just one of those "bringing awareness" threads, because I don't have any real smart ideas about how to fix this trash style of gameplay.

Why is it still able to be glitched / desynced??? WHY.

We've all had it happen... you're riding your pretty flaming horse, standing on a keep porch - whenever, wherever (so catchy, Shakira), and all of a sudden your stam, mag and health bars go straight to 0%. You then wander around in a circle for 3-5s, before transporting back to where you were standing previously - dead. You bring up the death recap, albeit knowing exactly what you're going to see. But why not bring your blood pressure all the way up.

Focused aim 6k > focused aim > 7k > focused aim 9k > focused aim 8k > focused aim > 8k.

No animations. No sounds. No possible way of defense.

Meanwhile, the bottom feeding mouth breather who's standing so far away they might as well be in Deshaan, disappears back into cloak.

For the love of God, Budha, Allah, Jim Carey... CAN WE JUST NOT HAVE THIS.

Thanks for your time xx

Replayable quests. Do we need such an option?

$

From time to time, some of us are getting tired and we are looking for something else to do, except pvp, dungeons, farming and doing quests we don't like.
ESO have a great story, especially dlcs and chapters and I think it could be a nice option to be able to replay such quests with our fav character.

Maybe some hard achievments with rewards for doing something during replay, idk, but I would be happy to just replay chapters\dlcs I want.

So, what do you think?

Easy way to fix ice staves

$

In my opinion they should've put an option to select wether you wanted ice stave for damage or "ice staff tanking" in the passives.
They could've kept the passive " Tri Focus " the same and added an extra sit to put a skill point in a spot that makes ice staves aggro and use mag instead of Stam.
Then we could've had actual ice mages and ice tanks but they didn't. You know why? Because they don't give a @#$& about what out want!
Zos doesn't give a @#$& about you or I want. As long as the money comes in they don't give a @#$& about anything you want unless you unanimously cry in unison together!
Just remember that from now on and everything in eso will make a lot more sense!

Animation Cancelling the most important issue?

$

So, I have opinions about animation cancelling. In ESO, in other games, etc. So do you...probably. I say this, because whenever the subject of animation cancelling comes up, people seem to come out in unexpectedly large numbers to voice their passionate opinions. So, regardless of my personal stance on A/C, I'm wondering, how important is animation cancelling as a subject/talking point to the general community of ESO, and thought I'd try to craft a poll that might give us (and possibly devs) some light on just what kind of priority animation cancelling should be for ESO going forward.

Story Mode Dungeons: Do we want them?

$

There has been a lot of passionate arguing about adding a story mode for dungeons, meaning mode where a single person could easily complete the dungeon do as to experience the story but loosing the rewards for that run through. I have become genuinely curious whether this is just a couple players making lots of noise or if this is something the community wants. So let’s get some numbers. Feel free to say why but please refrain from criticizing others or invalidating their view. There are several other threads where you have had that chance. Let’s let the numbers speak for themselves here.

It's been 6 years. Has there really been no work into this in 6 years?

With people slowly catching up how viable (and broken) stamnecro is and the changes for blastbones (which are great from a functionality point of view) we'll see a huge influx of them being used in PvP.

And now we reach the critical point of a now reliable skill offering 100% uptime of major defile, which has shown in the past that it's extremely unhealthy for the game, but now the skill isn't dodgeable or limited to meele range, no it's undodgeable, ignores Los, deals high damage and is cheap.

Yet all those things are fine as long as major defile isn't attached to it but with how major defile influences pvp builds you'll see even more tanky build which are build to be able to survive being severely defiled while killing other specs by wearing them down with defile.
This slowly removes any build that can't compete with those which is the case for almost any spec as they don't have the luxury of major defile.

Change the major defile to anything else but a class that has the survivability of stamnecro that also has access to major vulnerability shouldn't have access to major defile, no class should have access to it on skills that provide 100% uptime (read non ultimate abilities)

Btw instant offensive CCs are healthy for the game as long as they're not tied to absurd skills like drain

So,

I'm looking for some tips/guides/general suggestions on how to proceed.

What is it you guys do or use, or what modern resources are out there to help with getting back into the game.

I haven't played in over two years on Xbox, basically when Morrowind came out, I bought it, played some story, and stopped.

And yesterday, I signed in for the first time since then. I'm trying to get back into it all and just wonder what people use to keep up with it all again? Like I was looking briefly at my gear and I'm like, is this even decent anymore lol

What are people doing for leveling? How would you beat maelstrom today? Have updates just completely changed the meta I potentially used to run for PvE trials and delves and such.

So. I guess it's like trying to explain to a Vietnam veteran how to fight in a modern day war. The PTSD is there and he knows how to point and shoot the gun. But how is he going to actually survive on the battlefield? You see?

Thanks!

Leap Slowed down...

$

I don't understand why they are slowing down leap... I get a stamDK can get their tooltip to 30K, that isn't true for a MagDK.
20K whilst having to sink so much into sustain is a more realistic tooltip.

We need this most of the time(unless they're squishy or unskilled) to finish of opponents. I get that other Ulti's also have cast times, but visually they're harder to tell when triggered.
Onslaught they have reduced the damage, but that doesn't matter when it removes ALL your resistance this is the part that kills you.

Leap you literally grow wings and jump into the air, is this not a que to block? why do we need to dumb it down....

You say you started listening yo your player base after 5 years. Why won't you listen on basic stuff like NOT (NOT, i repeat, NOT) make combat clunkier? If so many people are asking to remove them, why the hell are you adding them to even more skills? Gosh we can't even ani cancel properly on pts! What the hell are doing guys?
Idk if you lost it in the process, but the goal here is to have people have more fun and improve the game so you get more money. Radically changing a 5yo product that people got so used to, will obtain the exact opposite.
See you in update 26, hopefully...

Dungeon Sets in PvP-land without a megamall

$
0
0
Since there are so many dungeons, I think the idea of a megamall with NPCs lined up one per dungeon is probably off the table, if not for performance reasons then lore friendliness issues.
So how might dungeon sets be sold Bind-on-Pickup for AP in a somewhat lore-friendly way?

Suppose there is one merchant for each Alliance territory. Say for the Ebonheart Pact, her name is Ebby.
Ebby starts at one of the gates, walks a day-long circuit passing through every town in Cyrodiil, not just towns near her Alliance. Her circuit starts at one gate, ends at the other.
Each time she's on a circuit, she has a full set of gear from one dungeon in her Alliance territory.
So today it might be Blessed Crucible. Once she reaches her end point she disappears for a bit to refresh her wares. So she might come back with Ruins of Mazzatun.
To make things more interesting she could start running if there's combat nearby, shortening her route (but also refreshing her wares earlier).

For dungeons that are not properly in any particular territory, it could be handled by a different merchant who walks a circuit in the Imperial City passing through all the District banners.

You might ask, "Should dungeon sets be sold through a vendor? Wouldn't that make people stop doing dungeons?"
That's a great question. Let me get back to you next week. I'll ask the Golden Vendor how she handles it. I need to pick up a Monster Set helmet from her anyway.

PSA #2: Warden DPS Is STILL terrible.

$

Two weeks into the PTS so far, Magden has gained a ~500-1k DPS buff, and Stamden remains the lowest parsing Stamina DPS, often behind several Magicka classes. I'm hoping we can see some meaningful change with this patch to help bring Warden up, but this change wasn't it at all. 2-3 weeks left in the PTS. Hoping Wardens can come together and try to be the driving factor for change, even though I know most Warden mains just PVP now and have given up on PVE for their Wardens.
