Today I learned the "Buoyant Armiger" motif was originally intended to be the altmer style.

This is random, I know, but I always love sharing anything that illustrates the awesome superiority of the master race.

We all remember the weird, alien glass gear from both iterations of Morrowind (TES:III and ESO). In ESO, it's called the "Buoyant armiger" style, and I always assumed it was a dunmeri version of traditional malachite armor.

Well, as we all know a ton of stuff about the ES universe was retconned in between Morrowind and Oblivion, especially when it comes to the altmer. In the current canon, this motif is of buoyant armiger origin, but did you know that all this weird looking gear was intended to represent the altmer?

Take a look at the game data for Morrowind, or ask a smith in-game, and you'll get an interesting piece of dialogue:

"Raw glass is similar to raw ebony, but less well-known. Ebony is jet black, while glass is a milky translucent green. Less durable, but much lighter and more flexible than ebony, glass is used primarily to make the distinctive, elegant glass armors and weapons of High Elven design."

If the glass armor we see in Morrowind was supposed to represent the altmer, it makes me wonder just how strange their homeland and culture were originally intended to be. I would have loved to see a "Morrowind era" intepretation of the Summerset isles, full of weird crystals and weirder clothing.

So yeah, I had no real point to sharing that. Just thought it was a cool tidbit for anyone curious about how the lore has changed over the years.

Mage lore books not appearing for two characters

I have two characters (Afrodity and Belarog) that when I go to a location I know there is a uncollected mage lore book for them, the book is not there. I haven't collected the book, and the map in the Vivec library confirms I haven't collected that book. I've run repair on the game, removed all addons, run /restartui, and ran /Camp and logged out for 15 min. Nothing is working to fix this.
The remaining characters don't have this problem!

I've got a friend with far too much money and far too little PvP skill, and he keeps going on about how the campaigns "are all empty" most of the time.

Don't shoot the messenger (much)!

Since I just moved here from Kyne where our forum thread was always an entertaining read, I was pretty disapointed not to find similar thread for this campaign, just a couple of disjointed QQs. And so im starting one :)
This is to be a big cross-alliance chat, full of salt, drama and unlikely friendships!

And so, I'll start with few observations, from a point of expereinced PvPer, but newcomer in SS, EP side.
Current population during active hours seem to be into EP's favour, which is a bit unfortunate for a guy joining, since its always more fun to play underpopulated faction. Still I like that other 2 factions are active enough to not let EP dominate but instead keep pushing back and keep PvP going!

Campaign seems a bit worse in regards to nightcapping. What amazes me tho, is that it seem to be going on on all 3 alliances roughly in the same amount. EP capping few days at the end of evening, others later at night and in the morning.. Altough I'll never understand ppl taking scrolls from NPCs at 4am, i must say: if it doesnt kill the PvP enjoyment at primetime, go slaughter those NPCs! Show them who's best! :P

And finally, since im moving here along with a guild, Im interested to find out names and activity of other guilds playing in SS :) Ive met some EP ones alrdy but im interested in knowing what DC and AD groups we will be fighting.. so far we have seen a couple of good ones, and we are very much looking forward to wiping you after we settle in! :D

State of the Game: Nightblade Class (Basic - WIP)

Abstract

This specific Header Post will serve as a simplified aggregate of various opinions from the community about the current implementation of the Nightblade Class. It will look for consensus from a variety of sources about different aspects of the Nightblade Class. What is good, what is bad, what could use some improvement.

All discussion in this thread should be about Nightblades, and it would be appreciated if a TL:DR would be included at the top of any lengthy posts, to serve as a perspective while reading the document, as well as to serve as a basic discussion point.

This initial post will function as a living document, being subject to change and being updated as time passes. There will not be any reposts of this initial post, and any update will be indicated by an update post (a bump, essentially). This Header Post will try to update every week on Sundays. pulling from various sources. While in its WIP state it may receive updates in random fashion (based on my schedule)

Nightblade Class

Healing
General Consensus:
Magblade healers are unique in that they function more with damaging the enemy in order to heal your allies with their class abilities. They don't have access to a large instant heal but instead focus more on HoTs for healing through Refreshing Path and the new Agony (Malevolent Offering) and Sap Essence, which necessitates you being in the midst of enemies, taking advantage of your Twisting Path while you heal and are damaged via Malevolent Offering. They have significant Ult gain through the use of potions and the occasional use of shadow skills, which themselves buff the healers defenses via shadow barrier.
Various Opinions:

Tanking
General Consensus:
Stamina Nightblade tanks have a good amount of self-protection from the form of Bolstering Darkness, a little resource management from Siphoning strikes, good healing options that can also buff your defenses, and have little form of useful on demand AoE crowd control outside of ultimates.
Various Opinions:

Damage Dealing
General Consensus:
Stamblade is able to achieve solo single target numbers that are much higher than other stamina classes due to self-buffs. But falls to the wayside in group content, due to the lack of cleave damage and similar sustained target DPS when other classes have access to these buffs. This combined with a more complicated rotation as a result of buff management being inherint with class damage skills. Link

A Note to the Developers About Game Development

When I play a game, 1 of the very first things that I tend to check for is the “time sink” factor. While there are tons of other factors to be considered, I particularly check to see how well the game will “hook” me. And I’m sure that’s what other people play games for. They want to be hooked. They want to play a game, that in a sense plays them. And ultimately leads to a digital playground.

For example... Disgaea 5 is a game that’s a tactics-style RPG, that has MMO-like qualities in the form of a single player game. But rather than kite the players attention around over months, and in a sense drip-feed content... It just hands the entire package to the player and lets them go wild with how they wish to go about playing it. Sure that may have been the initial premise of ESO (the whole play as you want thing), but things have strongly steered away from that direction. This is of course assuming that you want a sense of progress in ESO. This is of course completely disregarding the folks who pay to complete content.

Let’s go for another example, and a game apart of the franchise. Skyrim. Do you know why Skyrim was so successful...? What its secret was for success? Why even in the year 2017, it’s being released on yet another new platform (Nintendo Switch)? And it still is getting such much love? Even without the mods? It’s because the game has depth. It’s a game that again just takes the nose bag of drugs, and just hands it to the players to go wild with. Sure there are optimal builds to stomp content with, but it is all boiled down to how you wish to do it. And can be made into something great. Want to just insta-gib enemies with a rogue-like build and snipe things to death? Go for it. Want to summon Dremora Lords and or Atronachs to mangle your foes? Knock yourself. Or maybe you just wanna grab a big-ass hammer, and just club things to death. Go for it, sport. Shoot for the moon. There’s so many ways to do things and then some. Believe it or not, people are STILL coming up with new ways to get things done. Yes. Approaching the end of 2017, and people are still creating new successful builds for Skyrim. That’s amazing. And again, that’s not even including the modding. Lol. The modding scene of Skyrim has completely transformed a diamond of a game into something beyond diamond form. Stardust or something. Mods have turned Skyrim into a universe of just... Well... Epicness. But that’s a discussion for another time.

So do you get the picture, devs...? Here. I’ll make it simple, if you weren’t following me. The key to hooking players and having the snowball effect of success in a lot of amazing games (RPG-based) is of mastering the craft of the time sink. But doing so in a way that allows players to truly be creative, and explore their curiosities in a truly numerous amount of ways. WoW, Skyrim, Grand Theft Auto (Online included), Disgaea 5, Fallout NV, Diablo 2 and 3, Pokémon (pick any version), Bloodbourne/Dark Souls, etc. They all have devs who mastered the art of the time sink, and means for players to excel without pigeon-holding themselves to a specific set of builds or play styles. ESO does not do this, and falsely claims that it does. When in fact only a set amount of builds truly allows a sense of progression. Be it PvP or PvE. But especially from a PvE perspective.

Remember this... A meta is fine, but there must be a means of variety (solid and strong variety) for a game with competitive aspects to be truly healthy. This captivating the player’s attention for years on end. Know this. Master this.

Why Can't Anyone Let A Person 1v1?

$
0
0
This is the most baffling thing. If you see a member of your faction 1v1 against a member of another faction, why do you run in with your group of ten and zerg them down?

1) It proves nothing. It doesn't prove the person you killed got "rekt" or sucks, it doesn't prove you and the 5+ people with you are good.
2) Those two people aren't going to change the course of the battle so just leave them alone, why bother? You're not getting any exp or ap really.
3) Maybe they wanted to test their skill 1v1 and no they don't want to leave Cyro, 1v1 battles should be a part of war. And honestly, if it looks like a good fight chances are the person on your team doesn't want your "help," because they prob would have been fine without you. Honestly they probably shook their heads and sighed at the crumbling state of good pvp and then went and apologized to their opponent for you.
4) Dying in cyro means nothing. If youre wearing mostly impen your gear doesnt break down, you dont lose money or ap or anything. The only consequence is likely a short ride back to where you were.
5) It isn't at all cool to soul assault gank someone in the middle of a 1v1.

Times when it MIGHT be ok to intervene is if your team member is getting sniped by some *** in the trees or theyre outnumbered. Or, one person is taking out an FC or capturing a critical resource, or youre a smaller group and need every person you can get to take a keep etc. Still I even let an outnumbered team member fight it out if it looks like they can handle it.

Look I get it, the heat of battle and getting zerged down is part of Cyro open world pvp. But, just pause for one second before you go and hit your ulti button when you see a small scale or 1v1 fight happening. Assess the situation for a moment. A lot of players out there really appreciate the change in pace of a good 1v1, 1v2 or 2v2-3 or whatever from the constant zerging without being restricted to BGs. 1v1 and small scale fights are different in open world pvp than they are in BGs or duels outside of Cyro and I'm just saying, try and keep things healthy and fun for everyone. Not everything has to be zerged down everywhere all the time.

Want to Re-Buy the Game

I left ESO for awhile and am now coming back. I have always played the game using a disk on my PS4. I kind of just want to start all over with new characters. Also, the CD is a bit scratched and I don't want to have to rely on it anymore. So I'm thinking I am just going to buy a copy of the game through the PS4 store. That way I have a fresh start and don't have to rely on the CD. Is there anyway I can still use my current ESO account and username? Or do I just have to pick a new one? Will it not let me set up a new account, since I'll be using the same email address? I tried to submit a ticket about this, but the ESO Web Assistant doesn't seem to have any option other than "Contact Sony" and Sony doesn't have any clue what I'm talking about.

Change name of Guard to Troll

Why is "guard" in the game?
It is only used for trolling.
CP is already barely playable, it's essentially zergs trying to beat down no death builds.--- and we have "gaurd" which lets two no death builds be even trollier so an even bigger zerg is needed to kill them.

this game is really getting stupid.

New skin has misleading preview like Ebony skin

I was tricked into buying the Ebony skin because of how amazing it looked on my characters. And yes, I only previewed it on vampire characters. I can't believe they actually sold us a product with "missing texture fuchsia" eye color ON PURPOSE... but I digress.

I recall seeing lots of uproar about the misleading preview, and yet here we are months later with the same problem. Maybe these two skins were designed at the same time and have the same preview issues, that's totally possible/likely, but after so many of us feeling cheated or tricked into buying the Ebony skin you'd think they'd at least change the preview issue.

I wonder what will happen next in our wonderful world of Elder Scrolls and the Era of No Refunds.

In ONE DAY my brand new character can conjure and tame Daedric beasts from Oblivion, sling around magic infused with darkness, and drop lightning bolts like Zeus... but it takes ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DAYS to fully develop horse riding skills!

I think it's time to remove the cool down penalty for horse training. 45,000 gold is already enough of an investment.
