Summerset DLC Hopes and Speculation Thread!

maxresdefault.jpg

Hi there guys. As you may know from my angry ramblings over the past few weeks, I sort of have an unhealthy obsession with the altmer. Because the last thread I made got a little heated (and I take the blame for that), I thought I'd bring up something a bit more fun.

Many of you know there's some buzz about the next expansion being set in the Summerset Isles. Well, let's have a discussion about it! What do you hope to see in a theoretical Summerset dlc? I thought this through a lot, and here are some of my hopes and wishes:

Society
As many of you know, a ton of information was datamined about Summerset shortly after ESO released. Apparently Alinor and the surrounding environs were going to be their own zone at launch, and entire questlines are described in detail. Here's a link to the datamine: https://www.imperial-library.info/content/eso-alinor-and-ayarene

Now a lot of this has been retconned by what we see and learn on Auridon (particularly when it comes to the altmer's view on daedra) but there's still a ton of crazy cool stuff in here. Here's some highlights:

-The altmer organize themselves into tribal factions known as kinships. Similar to dunmer houses, these are the literal extended families of the altmer. Every altmer belongs to one of these giant families, and they each have territory in the form of a "kinhouse". The most famous kinship is, obviously, the direnni clan of High Rock, but the datamine makes mention of Isque (led by High Kinlord Maldawaro), Felballin (led by High Kinlord Langdruun) and several others.

-Each kinship is ruled by a Kinlord or Kinlady, and they make up the minor kings and queens beneath the high queen, Ayrenn. "High Kinlords" seem to be particularly important kings.

-Summerset Isle is completely "powered" by something called "The Varlines". There's no clear description of these, but they're made from meteoric glass and act as magical power-lines. They run through the entire island like a circuit-board. They can be used for instant transport, communication, and provide power to the cities and kinhouses. You know why altmer are so obsessed with their homeland, and think it's better than yours? It's because they seemingly have a real, tangible psychological connection to Summerset through the varlines. Some altmer literally go insane when the varlines malfunction, and their family members need to calm them down until things are fixed.

-The varlines are maintained by vartisans, who siphon the magic from the varlines into varla-lenses that are used sort of like giant batteries throughout the isle. The power is used for defense, transportation, and seemingly every facet of altmer life. One piece of dialogue in the datamine mentions an altmer "catching up on the latest court gossip" now that the varlines are fixed. Does it also function as some sort of magical radio?

-The Varlines seem to be centered around a giant orrery. In a way, the island of Summerset is a giant orrery. The plane(t)s that float around mimic, and in some manner control the way they move in space. The entire plotline of this datamine revolves around the maormer throwing one of the planes out of orbit and replacing it with a plane that represents their king, "Orgnum". Since all the aedra have a planet in the sky, this is somehow solidifying his godhood, much to the chagrin of the altmer.

-The altmer don't use their own people for petty labor and menial tasks. They literally enslave daedra to aid them in building and farmwork. Discarnates maintain altmer creations above ground, while aquiferi seemingly manipulate the ground-water, making it flow wherever it's needed most and ensuring the soil is eternally fertile. Again, these daedra are kept perpetually enslaved by the varlines, and go rogue when they malfunction.

-Battlereeves are altmer soldiers who have served for at least 400 years. You may think this conflicts with ESO's own statement that elves tend to live for only 300 years, but remember this datamine is before release so this may have changed. Alternatively, there are countless examples of elves living longer than 300, so perhaps these are just incredibly healthy, physically perfect altmer.

-The altmer are under near-constant assault by the sload and the maormer. Ever wonder why altmer are so xenophobic? It's because they've been fighting a 3-sided war against foreigners since the dawn of time. Granted, this was already known, but reading about it firsthand was as interesting as it was bizarre. The maormer apparently use sea-to-land vehicles that tear through the earth and defile the land. They use "infernal machines", possibly granted by the sload, to fling diseased corpses onto shore. This is how the altmer live.

-Some altmer are masters of sound-magic (tonal architecture?). The Isquer Kinship can apparently create music that targets specific races. They more or less created a dog-whistle to ward off maormer.

-Ever wonder whose making all that elven and glass weaponry? It's probably the Scintilla Kinship from Dusk. They're apparently some of the greatest smiths in Tamriel. They infuse their great forge with the magic of the stars.

Visuals
Now personally, I really want to see a return to the older descriptions of the Altmer and Summerset. I really loved the idea of this super-advanced, magical race living in a beautiful, alien landscape with a slightly dark edge to it. Since the time of TES III: Morrowind, people have been drawing artwork on how they imagine The Summerset Isles, and the native altmer, to look. Some of the following images include official concept art, more recent works by former developers, and pure fan-art that I think captures the heart of altmer culture:

Official artwork on altmer clothing. Note the organic shapes. Sort of like what we eventually got for the dunmer.

Some relatively recent artwork from one of the old writers. This is how he designed the altmer to be.

Since I just moved here from Kyne where our forum thread was always an entertaining read, I was pretty disapointed not to find similar thread for this campaign, just a couple of disjointed QQs. And so im starting one :)
This is to be a big cross-alliance chat, full of salt, drama and unlikely friendships!

And so, I'll start with few observations, from a point of expereinced PvPer, but newcomer in SS, EP side.
Current population during active hours seem to be into EP's favour, which is a bit unfortunate for a guy joining, since its always more fun to play underpopulated faction. Still I like that other 2 factions are active enough to not let EP dominate but instead keep pushing back and keep PvP going!

Campaign seems a bit worse in regards to nightcapping. What amazes me tho, is that it seem to be going on on all 3 alliances roughly in the same amount. EP capping few days at the end of evening, others later at night and in the morning.. Altough I'll never understand ppl taking scrolls from NPCs at 4am, i must say: if it doesnt kill the PvP enjoyment at primetime, go slaughter those NPCs! Show them who's best! :P

And finally, since im moving here along with a guild, Im interested to find out names and activity of other guilds playing in SS :) Ive met some EP ones alrdy but im interested in knowing what DC and AD groups we will be fighting.. so far we have seen a couple of good ones, and we are very much looking forward to wiping you after we settle in! :D

Is there “actually” cheating in PvP?

I play on PS4, so I imagine if there WERE cheating, it’d be more prevalent on PC. Also, I’ve never witnessed anything I’d consider “cheating.” Some players are just exceptionally good at PvP.

But I’ve been playing I’m Cyrodil quite a bit lately, and still hear the same “oh that guy’s cheating!” These aren’t even said in jest, but legitimate absolute beliefs that the other player is cheating (which is of course why they died).

So...is this actually real? Do people actually have ways to cheat in the game?

Note: I’m not including exploits.

So have you actually experienced this?

Since the change to allow you to drop of your writs wherever you like there were plenty of threads about where is best but I know I just do my writs wherever my character happens to be at the time and have done them in a bunch of locations. So where of the locations with drop off points do you think is the worst place to do writs? and with the worst city lay outs for connvience

Remove Dodge Roll Penalty in PVE

$

In PVE, Magicka light armor builds are easier to keep alive than Stamina medium armor builds, mainly because shielding can be repeatedly spammed and covers the health bar, which allows the user to keep attacking with defenses up, while dodge-rolling medium armor builds get penalized for spamming rolls and do not allow the user to attack due to the dodge roll animation.

It's common to see magicka builds easily survive aggro from dungeon mobs due to shields, but it's more difficult (not impossible, just more difficult) to see a stamina build handle mobs so easily. The only stamina build that can do this with relative ease are stam sorcs because of Crit Surge. It would be great to feel better about my defensive options on stamina toons that make them feel as good as magicka toons.

Benefits of doing veteran dungeons?

Hey guys,

So I recently came back to ESO after being away for a while and I'm about to hit level 50 with my new character and from what I can see the only reason to run veteran dungeons is for the hardmode for pledges?

The gear is the same - same stats, same CP160 level. Am I missing something here?
I was so used to running veteran dungeons with my main that I never reflected upon this, but have normal dungeons always given the same rewards?
Is there even a point to running veteran dungeons aside from the challenge?

I'm genuinely wondering.

Thanks in advance!

Please help me understand something: are crafting characthers useless?

Good [period of the day you're currently in] people.

So, I've returned to the game recently after a long time out, and I'm still trying to understand some changes.

So I have this (in old terms) veteran characther with a lot of skill points sparing, and since I'm rolling with a new one I tought about making a crafting focused character out of the old one.
My veteran char already has 40 in blacksmithing, so it would be perfect right?

But I noticed something, I went on to make a lvl 14 (iron) piece of armor with the vet and it would have about 750~ armor points.
And when I tried to make the same piece with this new char, it ended up having 2100~ armor points, even tough his blacksmithing skill is 1!

Why is this? Some new mechanic preventing the use of craft focused chars? Or I am forgetting about something? Thank you for the attention.

Old Player Thread-Another Year Gone

I finished up a few pledges tonight and found one of my beta friends had logged into the game for the first time since craglorn first launched. We talked about the game and how things were going irl and it seriously depressed me with a strong hit of nostalgia. I was hoping we could get a new thread going to commemorate the new year for ESO and the direction it's headed.

If anyone still remembers having less than 5k health and limited recovery, it'd be great to see some old screenshots and videos!

"We're building a game with the freedom to play — alone or with your friends — as much as you want," he said. "A game with meaningful and consistent content — one packed with hundreds of hours of gameplay that can be experienced right away and one that will be supported with premium customer support. Charging a flat monthly (or subscription) fee means that we will offer players the game we set out to make, and the one that fans want to play. Going with any other model meant that we would have to make sacrifices and changes we weren't willing to make."

It's not that other pricing models are bad, Firor said, but rather that the subscription fee fits better with the open-world experience that Elder Scrolls games offer.

"The Elder Scrolls games are all about allowing the player to go where they want, be who they want, and do what they want," he said. "We feel that putting pay gates between the player and content at any point in-game ruins that feeling of freedom, and just having one small monthly fee for 100 percent access to the game fits the IP and the game much better than a system where you have to pay for features and access as you play."

We're also very confident in our ability to support it with content. And not content of the magnitude of, it's a new month, here's a new sword or here's a funny hat — but content that is real and significant and it feels like regular and consistent DLC releases."

[NA][EP] Potentially Powerful Player Perusing People To Play With

$

Hi everyone! Thank you for reading my post.

I’m a sorcerer, not that it really matters too much.

I’ve played this game off and on since Beta but really got into it again a few months ago. I’ve been guileless because I wanted to make sure it wasn’t a phase but here I am, still at it!

I’ve gotten lonely playing by my uh...lonesome. Random groups are just so...impersonal, and I’ve grown bored with quests.

I don’t have much to brag about in terms of accomplishments but:
1. I’m champion 243, and growing.
2. I self-crafted the entire Julianos set, got it up to epic, and farmed the sorcerer set.
3. I read up on strategies and I can easily “2 bar” play in situation circumstances.
4. I’m an ESO Plus subscriber, if that holds any meaning,
5. I might never be the best but I’ll darn well try!

If nothing else, I’m good company!

What I’d like:
1. Veteran dungeon groups!
2. “End game” content...trials, things of the such.
3. Cyrodil (which is why I need an EP guild)
4. A group with discord, because socialization is cool!
5. A group with established players that have been playing together for awhile. In other words having hundreds of players are nice, but if there is a high turn over, I’m not interested as much.

So if you think we’re a match, drop me a line and a way to reach out to you.

Thanks again for reading!

Introduction
This thread will act as a collection of various issues and concerns the community has regarding the Nightblade Class. A synopsis of each point will be appended to the main post as the thread gains information. All points are not immutable and are encouraged to be discussed about validity. At the moment, all points placed on the main post will pertain to the issue presented, and suggestions will be omitted, however a link can be found pointing to the source for more information. Posting links to other threads pertinent to this thread is suggested as well.

Abilities

Assassination

Death Stroke
Incapacitating Strike
- Low cost, High Damage, Increased Damage, Major Defile, Stun, all favor this as the class stun rather than the synergy between Stealth/Invisibility and Veiled Strike. Thematic issue and overtuned? (7) (8)

Grim Focus
- Stacks drop after exiting combat. (1)

Blur
- Idea is simple, but offers little distinction other than simply easy access to a single effect. Perhaps could be looked at? (9)
Shadow

Cloak
- Offers many benefits at a low cost. Over-tuned? (1)
Shadowy Disguise
- Recognizes any damage dealt as the next attack (includes preapplied DoTs), incorrectly recognizes heals as attacks but does not consume the empower.(5)

Summon Shade
Shadow Image
- (AI of both skills?) AI of this ability appears to not recognize if a player is stealthed/invisible (duels in overland).(6)
Twin Shades Morph
- Shades generally focus on single target. Melee reduces their effectiveness on mobile targets. Much less Utility than the other option.(3)(4)

Siphoning

Siphoning Strikes
- The ability will occasionally recast the animation. (1)
Morphs
- Ability Cost dipping into the resource to be restored impedes the effectiveness. (2)

Cripple
Debilitate Morph
- Skill effects are better suited for single-target control. Resource return is similar to executioner passive. Time spent applying to other targets can be better spent Heavy Attacking or using other AoE.(3)

Drain Power
Power Extraction Morph
- Functions more as a base skill. Major Brutality is easily found from other sources. Offers nothing unique to show itself as a morph, and is dodgeable as well. (4)

Malevolent Offering
- Self-damage from this ability is not halved in PvP. Offers little to Stamina users apart from Healthy Offering being a catalyst for other heals. (7)

Passives

Why are people so against crown crates exactly? (I now know why)

$
0
0
I'm not really getting why people are against them. They don't offer any advantages over other players, they don't change the game in anyways besides some cosmetics, it doesn't take away from the game, and they are entirely optional. People are acting like they are being forced to buy them or they are missing out if they don't get them. Sure they may lose out on some cool skin or a fancy new horse, but they aren't losing anything. Plus the people who basically live on the game get the added benefit of getting a cooler horse or a new pet, and also then you can support the game if you would like. It's not putting you at a disadvantage if you don't buy them people, so whats the problem?

I was definitely wrong about this. Thank you for all of you who helped me realize

When was Bird of Prey (speed and minor berserk buff) reduced from 14s to 10s? Also why? I can't imagine anyone thought Warden DPS was overperforming. I did not see anything about this in the patch notes.
