Beat That Dummy: Stam Warden Edition

I hate beating that dummy. That smug pile of bones with 3 or 6 million health. Just standing there looking at me like Freddy.

Well anyways, it’s unfortunate necessary to get any kind of idea what your DPS is. It’s kind of important for trying out new builds and rotations and stuff.

A semi well executed rotation should give you an idea of what your DPS is. And right gear, traits, enchants, CP placements etc.

Since my Stamina healer build was pretty much poo, went back to DPS. For me, Damage per hour would be more fitting.

So I got all BloodThirsty AY Jewelry Axe and Sword, legendary quality. The only 1 handers I’ve got from countless runs. Regular Relequen and War Machine and VO. Still hammering the traits out. But at least 5 divines in each of them. Veledreth Monster.

First test hit 26k I thaught dam I’m pretty bad. That’s 3 minutes of life I want back. Happened again. WTH? Oh, I still have the ritual mundus and cp from my crappy Stam healer idea. Change that out and try to copy Alcast build setup best I can.

Relequen 36k
WarMachine 34k
VO 34K

I should be around 50k with these, but I’m bad. So anyways, I’m happy with anything around 30k really and most importantly consistent.

Next step is test it on a group finder Pug. Smoked Wayrest 2 with quickness and ease. Maybe the CP 350 DD was carrying my scrubby butt through there, hard to tell really.

Right after that, went in to nCR+3 for a scheduled Guild run. Seemed good to me. I was telling my friends in there what I had and the GM says that’s about what I hit on every toon. He’s right. It’s probably sloppy rotation or gears not quite right or something. I’m never gonna be one of them super OP players. It gets under my skin when players think everyone should be at a gazillion DPS because power creep and OP gear and they’re so great. Man, I hit the wall and stay there.

10years-eso-only.png

Years ago, we created this post to launch our 2nd trading guild. To better balance demand and waitlists, this is now a recruiting post for both.

The Bleakrock Barter Co and Blackbriar Barter Co are high volume trading guilds focused on providing a great trading atmosphere and lots of fun events & activities!
Both guilds are on PC-NA.

Currently Bleakrock bids in Rawl'kha and Blackbriar bids in Mournhold, the top 2 trading hubs in the game!
Other than that, the guilds are operated identically with the same selling power, activities and atmosphere.

- 500 Fun & Helpful Members! Low on Drama!
- In 2018, we are celebrating our *10th* year as an MMO gaming guild (we originated in LOTRO as Brandywine Brewing Co)
- Huge weekly Raffles (nearly ONE BILLION GOLD in raffle prizes!), fun auctions and regular guild events
- EPIC Guild House design with every crafting set station (including jewelery stations), All Mundus, Training Dummies and more.
- Very active Discord

If you're a highly active trader, shoot an in-game mail to @BBCGuild and request an invite to

"Bleakrock/Rawl'kha",
"Blackbriar/Mournhold"
or "first available".

While we'll do our best to catch requests in this thread, that's the best way to get our attention.

We often have a small waiting list but generally get people in within a week.

Very Important: Please hold a guild spot open if you want to be on the waiting list. If you are full on guilds when we extend the invite, you'll go to the back of the line if there is a waitlist.

Happy Trading!

My Enchanted Snow Globe

I have been conflicted about buying those home. First of all, making it Crown Store only, and not gold bought as a holiday home, was a really low move on your part, ZOS. Secondly, there are some aspects of the house that are really negative, such as the lack of landscape and view, especially of the night sky, since the huge red tent takes up the entire skybox, and there's nothing at all outside the globe itself. The congratulations, you really ruined what could otherwise have been a great view.

But, I have wanted a winter seasonal home for very long, and this is the only current home outside Pariah's that offers snow. And, with a generous item limet of 600, I knew I could make this house look really great in the inside.
The formula is simple, I tried and make it as cosy and stylish as possible. Imperial furniture isn't craftable, but simple Nord furniture served quite alright as a base, and most of the clutter isn't set in a racial style anyway. I love how much clutter I managed to put into this house, there's SO many tiny food items, SO many books, and SO much clutter it's hard to believe. And I'm still 20 items short of the limit! See, ZOS, this is how you make houses. Stop releasing those vast caverns and huge palaces that still look empty with 700 items, THIS is how I want my houses to look like, and with only 580 items as well.

Apart from the Nord antler lights and chandeliers, you'll find lots of maritime clutter in this home, as it fits a lighthouse. I really like the scrimshaw items, and how they complement the lighthouse template, with a few ocean pearls throwin in as well. All the books are readable, which I love.
The only thing left is to add the Winter Nixad if I decide to get it, and maybe the ice atro saber cat as well.
I thought the music box fits this home nicely, the tune is sort of winterish and atmospheric.

Happy winter holidays, and I hope you enjoy viewing this showcase as much as I enjoyed decorating this house.

How come the level 26 guy (who shall not be named but has sharp claws) with 60k health, invincibility, insane speed and ability to jump massive distances hasn't been banned yet?

When 90% of stam builds run master axes due to the insanely high bleed damage in no CP we have a problem. ZOS please look into toning down the bleed damage from this set in no CP pvp. Not much can be done about this damage once it is applied, and due to the Slaughter passive; Rending slashes and Steel Tornado are just hitting way too hard in no CP. Should be addressed. I'm sure people will be upset about this, but needs to be done. Nerfing That passive and lowering damage on master axe bleeds will allow more diverse builds to emerge.

Stamina Dragonknight DPS set dilemma.

Hello everyone, I just got my khajiit stamdk up to champ rank last night, I already got my defense set and monster set covered but am having a issue thinking of a damage setup to pair as jewelry and front bar. I am a 5-1-1 heavy setup. DW and S&B

So far I have come to a few ideas and I’ll explain pros and cons of both

Viper

Pros

adds more for pressure, assuming my enchants proc their dots I can have potentially 5 dots with viper.

Cons
Waste of crit, low ability damage, etc. the normal downsides to viper

Seventh legion

Pros heal, damage. What more could you want.

Cons since this would be a front bar only the uptime wouldn’t be as amazing as running 5 body

Spriggans

Pros extra pen (~13k), and good 2-4 bonuses

Cons few and far between, probably the most balanced choice of the ones given

Soldier of Anguish

Pros anti heal in an AoE, this would help for confirming burst damage on groups.

Cons not many that I can see

So what do you think of these 4 sets as a front bar damage set.

Edit: what about a set like crest of Cyrodiil for on demand major defile?

Drizzt Do-Liftin's Medium Armor Hybrid Dk, THE STAM WHIP BUILD!!!!! The Stam Whip we’ve all wanted.

I am too lazy to make a build video and many of you saw my last lazy attempt, so I figured I would explain the build here. I wanted to be able to play a physical damage medium armor stam dk without having to turtle up and be able to continue to apply pressure like my magdk of old. So that is exactly what I accomplished. By achieving 5.5k spell and weapon damage with bloodspawn I was able to have those 14-15k heals from lash to be able to continue to do damage while I fought and I could also use embers or cauterize effectively. Stack this on seventh legion proc, rally, and vigor and you become quite tanky. We aren't trying to use magicka damage, though the whip still hits hard, we are just after the magicka heals for smoother gameplay and constant pressure. It definitely isn't meta, but it is fun, and effective.

-5 medium and 2 heavy, you can do 5-1-1 if you don't have master dw
-Pelinials on my 2h bar with my magicka abilities (double dot poisons)
-Seventh legion with jewelry(1 infused weapon damage, 2 healthy 1wd and 1 stam recov glyph) with and body
-Master DW with nirn stam recovery enchant and infused berserker
-Bloodspawn/kena
-Warrior/Serpent mundus depending on bgs or open world. Found more success overall with serpent
-Tristat on all big armor pieces, stam on small
-Tristat food
-51 points into stamina and 13 points into magicka
-CP tree is set up for a standard stam dk
-I ran vamp for the stam and mag recovery, I also like the stealth for open world, but dropped to level 3 or 1 for bgs.
-Health outside of cyrodiil lookst like 21.5-22.2k health, stam around 26-27k, and mag around 19-20k.
-I was also a dunmer
Below are two different bar setups I would run.
Setup 1
DW Bar: Venomous, Rending, Noxious, Volatile, Vigor (DB)
2H Bar: Rev slice, whip, fossilize, wings, rally (Leap)
Setup 2
DW: Noxious, Rending, Volatile, Vigor, Wings
2H: Rev slice, whip, embers, fossilize, rally
I would often drop wings for cauterize for duels, bg, or open depending on situation
If you don't run master dw, there is a lot more flexibility for skills.

If you like the build, I just ask that you visit my video and give a like. I am currently testing magicka damage version of this setup.Thanks.

Damage Mitigation: Explanation UPDATED FOR MURKMIRE!

$
0
0
Hello everyone, big change came to us with Murkmire so time for an update in ESO Damage Mitigation Explained. Cause you know, they don't make it easy on us. Will rewrite some of the explanations but most things have stayed the same.

CALCULATIONS:

First off I would like to start of with saying that there are 2 main ways that mitigation can work, that is does it apply the mitigation BEFORE, or AFTER any possible damage shield gets damaged. So what I mean by that is if you have multiple sources of mitigation and at the same time have an active damage shield then some of the mitigation will be applied before the shield takes damage and some will mitigate the damage that overflows from the shield if it gets depleted. This is really important cause it heavily changes the strengths of the different sources. As of the Murkmire update the only known source of damage mitigation AFTER the damage shield is blocking and blocking related mitigation, this makes damage shields closer to an extension of your Health bar than previously.

Now lets talk numbers. The way that mitigation is calculated is as following:
MITIGATION=100-(100*(1-((Resistance/660)/100))*(1-(Mitigation #1)/100)*(1-(Mitigation #2)/100)*(1-(Mitigation #3)/100))*etc etc)
DAMAGE TAKEN=Base Damage*(1-((Resistance/660)/100))*(1-(Mitigation #1)/100)*(1-(Mitigation #2)/100)*(1-(Mitigation #3)/100))*etc etc

The way you would use this formula is to replace the place holders with the percentage numbers that is show in the tool-tips in the game and obviously the resistance should be the number of which ever resistance you want to test with. If you have more than 3 sources than just add more to fill your needs. Now something you might notice is that this way of calculating will result in diminishing returns, what that means is that for each added mitigation source the usefulness of each individual source gets reduced. As an example, having 2 sources that give 50% mitigation will give you a total of 75% mitigation.

Lets do some examples using things the average tank would use. Lets make it a Dragonknight, for obvious reasons. So they would have 50% from blocking, lets say 30% from resistance, 15% from minor maim, 8% from Absorb Magic, 10% from the Iron Skin Passive and 20% from the Sword and Board Passive. The calculations would look like this:
100-(100*(1-(19800/660)/100)*(1-(50)/100)*(1-(15)/100)*(1-(8)/100))*(1-(10)/100)*(1-(20)/100))=100-(100*(0.70)*(0.5)*(0.85)*(0.92)*(0.9)*(0.8))=80.2936%

So with all of those sources added together we ended up with a total of 80.2936% of the damage we take being mitigated. Now if we want to apply these calculations to see how much damage we would be taking from a hit we would just change it to be like this:
23549*(1-(19860/662)/100)*(1-(50)/100)*(1-(15)/100)*(1-(8)/100))*(1-(10)/100)*(1-(20)/100)=23549*(0.70)*(0.5)*(0.85)*(0.92)*(0.9)*(0.8)=4640

So the example number I used there was picked by randomly smashing my keyboard, but as you can see it doesn't take a lot to reduce very high damage numbers to something very manageable. Now I want to show you guys how this type of calculations would work if a damage shield was involved, cause as I previously explained blocking only mitigates damage that overflows from a depleted damage shield, while everything else will mitigate damage before the shield gets hit. I will be putting a list of all known sources down below but for now if we use our previous example as our base but then add in a damage shield with the strength of 5000 it would look like this:
(23549*(1-(15)/100)*(1-(19800/660)/100)-5000)*(1-(8)/100))*(1-(10)/100)*(1-(20)/100)*(1-(50)/100)=(23549*(0.85)*(0.70)-5000)*(0.92)*(0.9)*(0.8)*(0.5)=2984

In this case Minor Maim will hit first, as it applies to the attacker rather than the caster, secondly we have the resistance which was previously grouped with blocking but has since Murkmire been moved to be BEFORE the damage shield takes damage. Everything else mitigates damage AFTER the damage shield, the rule of thumb here is that anything that says "Increases the amount of damage you can block" or similarly will be grouped with the base block mitigation. Now on to the next bit in terms of calculations:

VULNERABILITIES:

Right now there are not that many ways for us to take increased damage to attacks but since minor vulnerability is something even mobs can apply now I wanted to make a specific section addressing Vulnerabilities of all kinds. The most known and talked about is the vampire fire vulnerability and the werewolf's poison vulnerability. I will be adding these as its own list under the mitigation options at the bottom of the thread. But now to the math, difference here is that the extra damage taken is additive and not multiplicative/exponential.
VULNERABILITY=Vulnerability #1+Vulnerability #2+Vulnerability #3+etc etc
DAMAGE TAKEN=Base Damage*(1+(Vulnerability #1+Vulnerability #2+Vulnerability #3+etc etc)/100)

One thing to remember here if you want to play around with damage shields in your calculation is that Vulnerabilities always comes first. But moving on. We have talked about calculating mitigation and to calculate mitigation in combination with vulnerabilities and damage shields, now I want to delve a bit deeper into something we have already been seen used but not really had explained yet.

RESISTANCE:

So there are two main types of resistance which are Spell and Physical, but each of them also have sub categories. Spell resistance has Flame, Frost and Shock resistance and Physical has Poison and Disease resistance. Now one important thing to know about resistance is that there is a Hard Cap, that means that after you reach a certain point it won't give you anything extra. For Champion point 160+ characters the hard cap for resistance is 33,000, or 660 resistance per 1% mitigated, which then tops it of at 50%. You can have more resistance than what the hard cap allows but it won't give you more mitigation, however, in PvP if someone debuffs you then having resistance above the hard cap can sometimes allow you to stay at hard cap if the debuff is to weak or your buffed resistance is strong enough.

Another thing we need to address now is how those sub categories work with the main resistance types. Sub categories adds to their main type whenever the attack element is of the same element. As an example, if I have 15000 spell resistance and 5000 flame resistance then if I get attack with a fire spell then I will have 20000 spell resistance against that attack. One thing to note here is that if your Spell or Physical resistance is already at hard cap then your sub categories will not add anything, since they are just temporary increases to the main type if attacked by the right element. But again if you get debuffed then anything above hard cap will help you stay up. Last thing to note about the sub categories is that since they are in its base form just adding to their main type then if someone penetrates your Spell or Physical resistance then they will penetrate your sub categories too. But now on to the next part of this thread and last form of resistance.

CRITICAL RESISTANCE:

Now critical resistance works very differently from the other forms of resistance. What it does is it lowers the enemy players critical hit damage modifier. A characters base modifier is 1.5 which means that if you land a critical hit then you deal 50% more damage. There are ways to improve this, such as minor and major force or the Champion point system. What we are gonna be looking at of course is how we can reduce that modifier. This one is very special cause unlike mitigation that is a multiplicative reduction this one is actually a subtractive one. This is the formula:
CRITICAL MODIFIER=1.5+(Critical Damage Buff #1/100)+(Critical Damage Buff #2/100)+(etc etc)-(Critical Resistance/68/100)
DAMAGE TAKEN=Base Damage*(1.5+(Critical Damage Buff #1/100)+(Critical Damage Buff #2/100)+(etc etc)-(Critical Resistance/68/100))

If a player has base critical modifier and they hit an enemy player that has 100 points into Resistant then their modifier will be affected like this:
1.5-(1650/68/100)=1.5-0.24264705882~1.5-0.24=1.26

Finding out what the % per resistance was was not easy but from my testing I have found that it is 68(if someone else has a different number I would love to see it.). This means that 100 points into Resistant gives you ~24% critical hit resistance. The total amount of critical hit resistance possible is 7518 or 110%. I now want to make something perfectly clear, THERE IS NO CRITICAL RESISTANCE HARD CAP! Ok? Ok! There isn't even enough critical resistance available to justify having it. Max resistance is 110% and highest possible critical damage modifier is 115%.

We have now gone through everything you need to know to calculate mitigation on any character you want or any situation you want. But before we get to the list of all the different sources there is one special ability I want to address cause the rules that it uses are not very straight forward, that ability is...

GUARD:

Instead of redoing the section I had for Guard I am gonna leave you with a link to my feedback thread on Guard, this bane of an ability that is very very inconsistent.
https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/431078/guard-feedback-thread

CALCULATOR:

So I know I have been lazy, but also busy, I have a calculator in the works again, many already know this but I thought I would start posting it here now instead and hope to get back on it soon and update it and finish it. Feedback on it has been great and I would love some more once I get back in it. For now I leave you with the link to the current build of it which is still unfinished.

Newest build: https://jscalc.io/calc/3OJGVPl8vmhIsek3

So.. we can hope that redgaurd is nerfed then? Such a boring race.

I also assume this means Dark Elf and Argonians will be nerfed. Don't try to say they will just buff other things.. cause you know that ain't happening.

2 adult friends looking for a group to PvP with, whether that be cyrodil or battlegrounds. We are active most evenings between 2030-2230 UK time and some weekends for slightly longer, sometimes significantly longer. Looking to learn and fare slightly better than we have been doing solo and as a duo.
We have been playing PvP for a few weeks in battlegrounds. It seemed fun and easy enough before hitting level 50, but post level 50 we are getting wrekt by superior teams/individuals.

Our current characters are;
260 C.P MagPlar and a MagSorc (Elysium101)
130 C.P Stamblade (will level up a seperate char once 160CP is hit) (Jim23Wells)

Both on EU PS4

Hit Play but Game never shows up

Up until this most recent Saturday, I was having no problems playing ESO. In fact, Saturday evening I had just rolled a new character, got to play it for a little bit before deciding that it was late and I should go to sleep. Sunday morning rolls around and I get up, take care of some things and then go to login. Since I knew I was planning on playing again in the morning, I left Minion, TTC, Discord, and the ESO Launcher running so that I could simply hit PLAY and go.

That was when it all went wrong. I hit PLAY, I heard the usual noises from the Developer/Publisher splash screens, but had no game video, I was still looking at my Windows desktop. The client never showed up on my Taskbar. I tried Alt+Tab to see if it was just minimized but nothing new was there. I opened Task Manager, ESO was not an Active Program except as a listing item beneath the launcher when the launcher was not minimized to the System Tray, otherwise it showed up as a Process only. Thinking that it just glitched, I right clicked and closed it. Tried again, same thing. Closed it through Task Manager again, closed Minion, Discord, TTC, and the Launcher. Tried opening only the launcher, same results. Restarted the computer and attempted again. Same results. Tried the Repair Game feature, same result. Double-checked that I had exceptions in the firewall for ESO and its Launcher. Checked my Windows Updates, my Graphics driver, same results. Tried bypassing the launcher and just opening it with ESO64.exe, same results. Ran malware and virus scans, same result. Finally I took drastic measures, I hit Uninstall in the games Launcher and then started reinstalling the game. I did not attempt to delete anything else, just the basic Uninstall. It finished Reinstalling sometime during last night, a bit over a day since I had started downloading again. Tried launching it without opening Minion or anything else. Same result, I could hear the startup splash screen sounds, but never actually saw any hint of the client opening beyond a Windows Task Manager Process.

While I have not disabled Add-ons prior to launching the game, largely because I forgot to try that method and am not at my PC at the moment, I am getting quite frustrated. As near as I can tell, checking my updates history for Windows, there were no new major updates to any part of my computer, the add-ons or the game between the time I was playing Saturday night and the time I attempted to play Sunday morning other than a pair of anti-virus updates. Yet I cannot seem to effectively launch the game client anymore. I am receiving no known or at least visible error messages. I even tried running Game Consultant in the ESO folders hoping that would provide some insight, but it was both dry and over my head.

As near as I can tell, everything should be working fine. So my question is this, Does anyone have any clue about what the heck is wrong with the game that I can click PLAY on the Launcher, hear the sounds of the game client starting up, but never actually see the game or evidence that the game is running beyond those sounds and a task manager process?

What counters can a nb use against Hurricane.
I find that once you are within range you are done for as you can't cloak and it stuns you nonstop.

NA VIVEC:EP vs DC vs AP

Well the title says it all, ap has hit hard times on Vivec, they are getting farmed at an unsustainable rate and are bleeding pop. The only time when ap on vivec can even stand a chance is when Omni is online, this isn’t right that one guild has to carry an entire faction!we have to rally, it doesn’t matter who’s good or bad, if the queen loses ,we all lose! But most importantly.......... we have to find a way to train the ap pugs(near impossible task). How can we train the dominion pugs to be as strong as ep or dc pugs?

3M vs. 6M dummy vs. trial vs. magicka bar

I want to compare different gear/skill/mundus setups before going to a trial with those setups. I am aware of the limitations of dummies as a "true" test of trial performance, but this isn't about it, it's more about comparing the setups relative to each other, not about whether I know mechanics.

I used to think that if I can't sustain on the 6M dummy, I'll have difficulty in a trial, but since I took my magplar to vSO and vCR recently (I usually tank in trials, so doing trials on a DD, especially vCR, is somewhat new to me) I found that nothing could be further from the truth. On the troll in vSO that is little more than a target dummy, I did over 7M damage just doing the same rotation as on an actual dummy (- ele drain ofc), and I ended the fight with over 50% of magicka left, while at the same time pulling DPS numbers that are a fair bit above what I get in solo parses on dummies (so no significant downtime for magicka to regen). I'm guessing that the Worm Cult set on one of the healers and the occasional synergy were more than enough to manage my resources. In vCR I had no issues either due to some downtime when I go to the shadow realm and when I jump up to avoid the explosion there.

So here is my dilemma:
- If I use the 3M dummy to test my setups, I have high variance (for example 45-49k DPS with Zaan+Juli+SS depending on just minor mistakes and RNG with crits and set procs) that makes it entirely unsuitable for comparison of sets that are already quite close (for example Julianos vs. Burning Spellweave) or mundus stones (Apprentice vs. Thief).
- If I use the 6M dummy, I run out of magicka and have to heavy attack by the time the dummy reaches 30-40% HP, and since I don't really have a heavy attack rotation, and only do them whenever I run out of magicka, this introduces another variable that might throw off the comparison.
- If I make my builds with more regen, I will end up with resources that will be wasted in an actual trial and I'd be better off with more offensive stats, and due to different scaling I might pick the wrong stat when going to a trial (Apprentice or even Shadow might be better with Julianos+Mother's Sorrow, but Thief better with Siroria+Spell Strategist).
- Having a healer with me every time I do a parse on a 6M dummy is inconvenient and would make my setups not really comparable to other people who test on the 6M dummy.

Also, this isn't really about a specific build/spec, even though I mostly talk about my magplar here. I have the same issues on my magblade and stamblade when I try light attack rotations. I just want to know what the best approach would be for the most consistent and repeatable tests that would as correctly as possible reflect the relative potential of the different setups when taken to a trial and used appropriately in fights that allow for it (i.e. no running around with Siroria, not being at range all the time with Zaan and Master Architect, no constant target switching with Spell Strategist and Relequen etc).

Which way do you think I should go and why?

Best trait for Resto Staff in PvP? (In your opinion)

Just trying to gather some data from what players prefer. Please don’t say “none, go sword and board”.. just try to say if you were going to use resto, what trait it would be.
