Good PVP'ers vs. Bad PVP'ers

$

I've noticed something that has been a plague on PVP games in the last 15 years that I've been playing them that I think is utterly hysterical, as follows:

Many of the players of today that believe they are great PVP'ers do not actually fight the best opponents in open world PVP. This is common in not just ESO, but in games like WoW, EVE Online, Aion, etc. Essentially, what occurs, is a similar form of what we used to use clans / guilds for back in the day. I'll use a comparison of my 1st experience in a PVP game, with Lineage2 vs. my current experience in MMO's through the lens of ESO.

Lineage 2 - 15 Years ago.

In this game, gear grinding was insane, to have a B grade weapon (weapons scaled to S) you basically had to have been playing for almost 2+ years, at level 55+ grinding out 10% XP in a day required about a 12 hour investment, when you got to level 65+ it was basically 12 hours to make around 5%.

The penalty of death was 2-3% XP, and if you died in PVP and it wasn't a clan war and you were near level cap you were basically losing the last 12 hours of your XP grinding every time you died. Also, if you ganked someone who didn't want to fight, you received Karma which needed to be worked off slaying monsters, your name was red and you had a significant risk of dropping your gear if someone killed you while you had karma. Dropping something like a weapon would set you back at least a year.

This is what guilds were built and predicated on. You wanted to maximize individual gain and minimize losses by surrounding yourself with quality players and working as a team to accomplish very difficult goals. This encouraged teamwork between the best players, setting aside of ego, and created a natural hierarchy in the game in which the best players formed an alliance, managed the castles they won, and made it possible for the people who were playing in the zones they owned the castles of an opportunity to make significant in game currency (very rare) if the alliance managed the seeding process properly.

The best players were also the best PVP'ers. You needed to defend your grinding area's (TOI - Tower of *** I forgot the name) grinding angels was a hotly contested spot, and many times when we were at war with another clan we would fight over the opportunity to grind experience in these area's for hours on end. The best players were constantly fighting the best players for the best grinding spots.

ESO - Current Day

In this game, gear grinding is very easy. Some of the best gear is easily crafted and the stat bonuses from gold jewelry / gear is very minimal, you can be a very competent player in epic purple attire. Grinding XP is so easy that we have over 810 champion point levels. You can play casually and still be very competitive.

The penalty for death is almost totally non-existent. You don't need to repair your gear, the only thing you suffer is a respawn and having to run back to the fight. You will never lose something you worked for.

Guilds are now built and predicated on their ability to do specific things well (Trials) or are primarily social gathering places, with no hierarchy of who the best players are, and very little reason to set aside ego or differences to accomplish a greater goal, because no greater goal actually exists. I should note, this isn't the case for trading guilds, the last bastion of what a real guild should be based on, which many players in the forums want to ruin because they don't like the idea of paying dues. Old players have no incentive to teach new players how to learn how to play, because overall difficulty isn't that hard, finding enough players to do the content is fairly easy, even if you have drama with 90% of your server. Only the highest level achievements in the game now require teamwork.

The best PVE'ers and best PVP'ers are separated for the most part, though more often than not you find that the best PVP'ers are also very good at PVE as they have a serious working knowledge of the class and its limitations/best skills/best stat / gear allocation, etc. But, these so called PVP'ers that we find in ESO, don't actually fight each other, more often than not. Many of them have multiple characters across multiple factions, and rather than put themselves into a guild where they would need to control their ego, they separate into dueling circles or small guilds that don't fight each other in open world, and most have no idea how to play as a team.

They talk on the forums like they want "serious PVP" - they groan for balance - they complain about lack of challenge - yet they purposely limit the challenges to themselves as players (other good players) by boosting their ego ganking scrubs while totally ignoring the players who give them a challenge in Cyro.

i.e.

Majority of people on the forums are fake. I think this reflects our society today as well. Most of the people talking to you are liars today, with no interest in challenging themselves, constantly seeking the easy way out, massaging their ego's, and running from or refusing to challenge themselves due to a fear of having their ego crushed. They have no idea how to take their "L"'s and instead will focus on how a class is op, it was a 1vX, a mob hit them once, etc.

I know this comes off as a "Back in my day" and it's true, games are way more accessible today than they used to be because of a lot of the things mentioned above, and that's a good thing, but I'll say this -

If you think you're good at PvP but all you do is run around Cyro 1vX'ing scrubs and fighting the occasional duel against good players, while your group avoids fighting those good players because they are your "friends" - you're not good. Gone are the days when guilds had purpose, men and women set aside ego's to accomplish complete server domination for their guild, and good players treated each other with respect on virtual battlefields.

Enjoy the rest of your day you tea bagging clowns :)

Zos Balancing Has Failed

Im a pissed off magsorc, which means to the majority of you this thread is a joke because everyone hates magsorc. To those ppl I trust you know how to close a tab....

This games balance is a blatant failure. Name literally 1 other mmo where there is only one viable mag based dps class. Hell, really nightblade is the only viable dps for endgame at all, mag or stam. Instead of getting better, were getting worse. We have more classes capable of healing or tanking than endgame dps. Magsorcs now an endgame healer with dps being a joke when a year ago sorc healers were a joke and dps was in a good spot. pvp isnt any better with magsorc again being a less effective magblade. Before murkimire, before the last year, there were reasons to be a magsorc. There were reasons to play as one. Little by little zos took away all of those things. Zos took away overload, an entire playstyle gone. zos nerfed shields, which was a trade off for the lower dps in pvp for more survivability, now we have the same shield strength as a magblade, while they have heals and cloak but lets not forget sorcs can still stack our 8k critable joke shields. Had a 0 sustained dps pvp rotation that worked because of the stun from frag, zos took away the stun, then nerfed the replacement for that stun. We had off balance, great reason tohave more than 1 sorc in a trial, but off balance got nerfed now you only need one. Dont thing the minor prophecy makes up for it because the same sorc providing the off balance is providing the minor prophecy and hell if we kick the sorc to the second healer spot they can do all that and we can have a magblade take there spot and the sorc can just buff people. Had pets that could take agro but thats gone and there goes the reason to ever pick sorc over magblade for solo content especially when the only challenging solo content is vma and pets new fancy immortality doesnt apply there.

Meanwhile you have unkillable tanks in pvp, light and medium armor being a joke but hey only mag gets screwed on that because stam can wear heavy. Snipes from stealth, stunning and 2 shotting players before you factor in the bug thats been around for like half a yr.

Root-Whisper Dailies "Offerings that Hide" Question

I just got access to the Root-Whisper dailies and the first one I received, "Offerings That Hide", instructed me to return to Xul-Thuxis and collect three artifacts. The map marker points me to a door in Root-Whisper that leads to Murkmire. Then it points me to the area where the Lakemire Xanmeer is. Then it points to the exterior door to Xul-Thuxis, but the way is blocked by rocks and cliffs. I try the interior door to Xul-Thuxis inside Root-Whisper village, but the way back is also blocked by the drop-down into Whiptail's room. How do I get back into Xul-Thuxis? I'm sure it's something obvious I'm missing but the map markers don't seem to point to the right places.

Why do bots bother you?

There are a lot of posts about bots here. I wonder, why do they bother people at all? I sometimes see bots at dolmens. I report them. Just because... well, no reason, actually. They don't disturb my game. I report because it is a common practice when one sees a bot. Because a bot is something bad and unfair. But lot of people here seem to really suffer from bots - in what way, I wonder? No sarcasm or something like that, just curious.

I think it would be a GREAT idea to balance racial passives.

For example when I started this game, I had really no clue so guess what I created? A redguard mage sorcerer (blahahaha).

But I'm doing ok. Got many achievements and even the Maelstrom Flawless.

But ever so often I wonder about that extra 15dps I'm missing just because I'm a redguard by race. <- That seems BS to me.

So I'm all for rebalancing racial passives.

How do I redeem the code for a T-Shirt?

I received an e-mail telling me to go to the Support Page to redeem a discount code for a T-Shirt from the recent competition. However, when I go on the Support Page I don't see anything related to the T-Shirt. However, if I go on the Account page on this site I can see a Redeem Code option, but clicking it requires inserting your Game Code, which I don't have because I bought the game on Steam. How should I go about redeeming that code? The T-Shirt's design is pretty nice...

Hey everyone,

Since we have now Sotha Sil statue, Vivec statue (2 variants even!) wouldn't it be nice to have Almalexia statue to complete whole Tribunal ?
And no, I don't want it just because I want to make Tribunal Temple with all 3 statues

Auto removal at end of dungeons

$

What is the point of this - turn it off!

It's bad enough that we have to run all these dungeons and grind everything over and over again, and we still get to end of a pug dungeon - everyone buggers off even if you asked them not to and you get no skill point or dungeon reward.

Either auto reward the skill point \ dungeon reward or disable the auto removal from dungeon, we don't care about the immersion of the story or the characters involved the 15th time around!

It's not a big request, the French would be setting fire to the servers by now if they had to put up with it for this long!!!!

NA VIVEC:EP vs DC vs AP

Well the title says it all, ap has hit hard times on Vivec, they are getting farmed at an unsustainable rate and are bleeding pop. The only time when ap on vivec can even stand a chance is when Omni is online, this isn’t right that one guild has to carry an entire faction!we have to rally, it doesn’t matter who’s good or bad, if the queen loses ,we all lose! But most importantly.......... we have to find a way to train the ap pugs(near impossible task). How can we train the dominion pugs to be as strong as ep or dc pugs?

3D Art - Hjalmar Bearheart (WIP - Work in Progress)

Well, I had made my friend's character Speaks-With-Blade not too long ago, and I decided to give another try to make a human character in 3D. I had this little project of making my own character for ages, but I always ended up really sad of horrible results. But this happens on everything, one isn't born knowing all, and practise makes you become better. So here I went two-three months ago to start making my character, Hjalmar, again. I've decided to start a thread here as I work on this character and finish him. So I'll start by explaining how it started. For reference, this is Hjalmar in game:

9yfzctsjrhbk.png

I started the mesh in ZBrush, with a base head, which I sculpted on to the point I was happy with how it looked. I didn't bother with the ears much, because Hjalmar is supposed to have long hair that in the final render would cover the ears. Here's the ZBrush final sculpt:

4g3fbzo67wf0.png

I had done the UVs already, as I needed the Texturing.XYZ displacement as base too. Which I made when the head shape was as I wanted. I made the UVs in Maya, then in Mari projected the displacement map, and returned to ZBrush, to add my own detail, such as wrinkles, more pores, scars... The scars were quite a hard thing to sculpt by the way... Fun detail, mostly, the scars were gained through RP sessions with friends.

After making the head and the arms, I began doing the armor. In game it is Bloodforge style, in combination with Fire Drakes Sabatons, and as shoulders Breton Light Tier 1, to simulate a fur cloak. The armor took lots. But I eventually had it, and I tested the displacement map, making the first render with VRay:

0t3rkn9chj28.png

I'm not a fan of displacement, because it makes the renders take soooo long, but it was okay. I loved the result. And then I began painting the diffuse and specular maps using Mari aswell. Then... I added SubSurface Scattering and here is the result I got.

nxkerpzdugy9.png

Next step was making the eyes. Not easy, at all, because I wanted them to look as real as possible, eventually I got it right:

1ccp14aukc51.png

Yes, it even has that eye "wetness" between the eyeball and the lower eyelid. It does give it a more realistic look. Next step was making the armor displacements, applying them, and then texture it. In the end I got these three renders as result.

ywsjrza49ah2.png

iranfg4y50qp.png

5b8pb5trutd4.png

Note that there's no cloak there, nor any furs the armor has. That was actually the next step. And the one I was most afraid of. As every single time I've tried to do hair and fur I've failed horribly. Worst part... was that Hjalmar as I said, has long hair, and not just long hair, but also a braid on his beard... My own character complicating my work hehe. In the past I joked with a friend that we should just cut off his hair and beard in RP. Ironically enough, right after I had done the beard braid in my 3D model, Hjalmar, in RP, lost his beard to goats. Well, here's some weeks of work on the hair, beard, eyebrows, moustache and eyelashes. Don't be scared of floating head haha.

m8modsg7fukq.png

I easily made the furs and the cloak too. But I ran into a problem. My laptop wasn't powerful enough to render all that fur and displacement. Not even my desktop. Thankfully a 32 GB RAM computer allowed me to do so, and while I don't call this character finished just yet, as I want to rig him and pose him (with his weapon, which I made some time ago), and a few more plans I've for him, I'm getting rather good renders, so here go the last pictures of this post. I also added "peach fuzz", which are these little white hairs on the body that are better seen against the light. The last render here shows it, but... I believe I added waaaay too much, so I might remove some.

I'll update this thread as I get better renders and... hopefully soon rig him and pose him, and add him somewhere in a cool background :)
