[Question/Discussion] Break Free, Armor & Resource Management

Salutations!

I come before you to bring up the discussion of basic combat options being revisited with the idea on the table of having Break Free cost magicka instead of stamina.

Aside from my dramatic point, I first wanted to convey I am coming from the perspective of a mainly a PVE Stamblade and do encourage those more experienced overall or having constructive criticism to please input as you wish. I have spent countless hours researching/testing mechanics to figure out how the game really works, & I aim to write this as objectively as possible, though my examples will mainly be with a nightblade. I keep in mind tanks aiming for nonstop break frees, magicka users having to focus on stam too.

__________________________________
I have not played the game terribly long, but have lived the struggle of stamina management for prolonged fights. Typically 9 out of ten of my skills will be stamina, save maybe Blur or Invis. With decent stam regen and a magicka portion of my rotation accompanied with weaved heavy hits, you'd think that'd be enough. Problem is that's about the gist of what stamina builds can do & it does develop a deficit over time. On top of rotations, there are the combat abilities that All require stamina; Blocking, Bashing, Dodging, Sprinting, Sneaking & Break Free. Whatever role you play in a group, you can count on using these consistently amidst your rotation. If you're purely a magicka build, this is only an issue as you have to invest somewhere/somehow/somewhat into stamina or stam regen. However if you're purely a stamina build, you have the opposite problem (least for nightblades) where I am lacking an outlet to use/balance my magicka use & have my stam regen have more opportunity to tick; vesus relying primarily on heavy hits. The choices I see are:

---Shadow Cloak: Procs Shadow Barrier, can provide guaranteed crit on next direct hit or minor protection for 5 seconds after invis lifts. Also your damage done is increased while stealthed. Sounds good, but in a PvE environment, your stealth more than likely will lift instantly, giving no real uptime for increased damage, also any (aoe) damage taken that brings you out of invis is subject to not be mitigated by minor protection. A Catch 22 that can be seen both offensive & defensively efficient, but relative to a stamina build & rotation it doesn't seem to fit nicely, least to me. (Please share your thoughts)

---Drain Power: Possible group Heals that scale with AOE (with morph) & provide major brutality. Once again, if you're in a PvE environment, you're more than likely getting that buff from a potion. You could say that opens up variation in potion usage, however there is nothing you could replace brutality with to synergize with dps; save health regen for survivability. Overall, DP's an option that's combative function is better utilized in potions.

---Blur: 3 defensive buffs, long duration. This is definitely an option, but once again in a PVE environment, minus the dodge you're more than likely going to receive these mirror buffs from other party members & they do not stack.

What I'm looking for is a magicka ability that complements your weapon damage output or provides survivability that cannot be easily found elsewhere. So far everything seems meh...You can use any magicka based hots/dots like Swallow Soul, but the damage/return will not scale with the rest of your setup, providing sub par results. From a stam dps standpoint, that is the dilemma.

Solution:

Break Free costs Magicka & the Armor Ults for Light & Heavy Swap. The while slotted break free bonus of Immovable Brute would stay for Heavy for all morphs. The 5 seconds of CC immunity would carry over.

Batman Logic: Combat abilities are physically enduring; dodge rolling, sprinting, it beats your body up. Break Free isn't a physical test, but a mental one. A mental test of Willpower. Willpower, the cornerstone of mages.

Tanks do not need the Heavy Ulti to maintain Major Ward/Resolve. Every class has an ability to trigger it along with a few other avenues. Tanks would no have an 'o crap' bubble; one morph that could cost magicka for a stronger bubble & a stam one that returns resources based on highest amount. Magicka builds who already have bubbles up the ying yang would now have better break free options that work with their main stat & further buffing of their resists. In terms of PVP, would you say this would motivate more glass cannon style players to switch to cloth? Would you say heavy armor in PVP (combined with rolling cc immunity) has been a persistent problem?

By having Break free use magicka, stam builds are now using less stamina & finding an optimal use for magicka. Magicka builds don't have to focus as much on stam anymore. Tanks still get a reduction for break free in the Tower CP tree, mages would get the skill slotted break free buff, but lose a bubble. PvE wise this seems doable, PVP wise this seem like mages would have more mobile freedom.

______________________________

All in all, I find it insensible that you have all combat mechanics take stamina, tailor mechanics to mainly suit a non hybrid setup in PvE & have no efficiently synergistic supporting magicka skills for stamina dps-ers to utilize. We all play as we choose to play, but my Batman logic is undeniable.

Please discuss. This is a rough draft idea & I'd love to see something more realistic fleshed out.

Switching from PS4 to Xbox One X. Looking for a little help

I just finished setting up my Xbox One X which came yesterday and as someone coming from PS4 with max CP will be starting completely over.

As a PvP focused player I'm looking for advice on which Alliance on Xbox NA would be your choice for Vivec as well as what are a couple of the largest/best guilds I should look to join that get prime guild trader locations. I would also greatly appreciate anyone that would be willing to craft me a set of training gear for my new Stamplar.

And if there's anyone out there that did the opposite and switched from Xbox to PS4 let me know as I have a ton of Gold, gear, and maxed crafting on PS4 to trade for help on Xbox.

How to be viable for PVP in this game?

Hello lads,
as title hints, my question is how to be able to kill something in PVP enviroment - Cyrodiil.
Im new to this game and started PVP just few days ago.
Whatever im trying i cannot do anything to enemy players. Seriously, i can two-shot any non-elite npc, but cannot even scratch players.... and im dead as soon as somebody look at me.
Few days ago i was dueling with a long-term PVP player and could-not scratch him even after he pulled off his equip, he only maintainded by his aura. Of course killed me in an eyewink after he spammed one ability few times. So it is not a low equip issue.

Im usualy going well in PVP at other games and never had any problems to get into competitive PVP, but in this game im utterly confused what Im doing wrong. I watched several "pro" videos and tried its builds (except those recommended sets which I does not have them yet). but none worked for me.
My character: Nightblade, bow+two hand/dual wield, 210 CP, attributes: 64stam, campaign VIVEC (champ) - can provide some more info if somebody will be serious to help me or give some advices :)

Maybe mine problem is that I does not have all champ. points available? Or is there something else required to be PVP viable?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my crude english :)

Just made a new guild for all us solo players who don't want the hassle and commitment of a regular guild but still want to get together with like-minded players to hit dungeons at every level. Nice and casual, participate as much or as little as you like, no fees or anything.

Not currently officially associated with Lonewolfhelp.com, but we're working on that! Looking for new members, so leave a reply here and be sure to include your gamertag so we can get you an invitation sent out.

The Guild is currently based in Ebonheart Pact (and aligned with them for Alliance War content), but characters from all over Tamriel are welcome.

I promise, last poll for the day, but figured I should give the vampires something to do too. So do you give away your bites for free, or charge? Just curious, nothing against those that charge of course.

The patch that killed PVP for good?

Even before the patch PVP numbers have dropped significantly but after the Patch and the continuous long load screens and complete arrogance from the devs and outright basic refusal to explain the situation I honestly do not see PVP recovering from this on console at this point I'll be surprised if there is an patch to fix this until the next update just my opinion

The Frost Staff experience

$

Looting the final vMA Chest yesterday I got a frost staff. Nirnhoned. This led me to thinking about how misdesigned the weapon currently is and to plead to ZOS once more to change it. Now, ice staves were never great at any point in the game. There were some PvP builds utilizing them along with the Winterborn set, but that's about it.

Apparently ZOS saw this in their data and thought about changing the weapon. To the surprise of everyone they made it into a tanking weapon by changing the Ancient Knowledge passive in the Destruction Staff skill line. The result is that the weapon - which wasn't a great DPS choice before - isn't a good choice for tanking now either. It even isn't if you think of it as an easy entry into tanking for someone who hasn't leveled the Sword & Shield skill line yet.

What do Frost staves offer?
  • Access to the chilled status effect
  • Blocking with magicka as primary resource instead of stamina
  • A cost free taunt with a fully charged heavy attack
  • 15% block cost reduction

What are the disadvantages of frost staves?
  • Low base damage (if you want to use it as DPS weapon)
  • Chilled is one of the weaker status effects as it only applies minor maim, concussed rules all because of the exploiter CP passive
  • If you want to tank, the taunt isn't easy to handle as you have to drop block to charge the heavy attack fully
  • No access to Major Heroism in the destruction staff skill line (no Heroic Slash)
  • Magicka is often also needed for utility spells
  • Access to Major Fracture and Major Breach takes up another precious bar slot as you need to slot Elemental Drain (Pierce Armour taunts and applies the debuffs in one single skill)

If you compare S&B and the frost tanking it's glaringly obvious that the former was designed with tanking in mind and the latter is a half finished concept. Now I don't say that you can't make it work as a frost tank with a hybrid or something. Sure you can. But if you can you'd be an even greater tank utilizing S&B. The synergies of S&B are just so much better.

My suggestion is to drop the frost tanking idea altogether and instead change ice staves into a viable DPS choice. That would also help solve the issue with Warden DPS which is lacking still months after launch. One start would be to do the following:
  • Increase the light and heavy attack speed of the staff attacks. As they are now they are incredibly slow and clumsy.
  • Change the Ancient Knowledge passive to grant Minor Beserk to Frost Staves, increasing damage by 8%.
  • Change Wardens Bird of Prey to grant Minor Force, increasing crit bonus damage by 8%
  • The chilled status effect increases critical damage rating by 2191 instead of minor maim

The problem with frost stave tanking is that tanking is more than holding Aggro and blocking. In the current state frost staves are not a good choice either way.

All dailies usually reset 2 PM GMT+8 for me, but in some cases this doesn't happen. Currently, Razgurug in Slag Town is not giving me any quests, even though his dialogue seems to suggest that he has something for me.

Please look into this, thanks.

Telvanni Master Wizard costume dyeing

It's a nice costume. But I have one gripe with it.

Why are the red trims on the armor completely undyable? It makes a lot of colors you put on it simply look out of place.

Would be great if this could be looked at.

EDIT: Some pics to illustrate the point:

You get the point.... It dyes pretty well, but those red trims....

Pros: It dyes well. It looks good on female characters. You need to earn the ability to craft it ingame or ask a friend to craft it for you
pro/con: you cant take out your credit card for it:

you will need heavy telvanni as you base, for shoulders you need xivkyn or heavy ragada shoulders. Boots xivkyn boots will do and medium ebonshadow for the gloves. Grats you saved 2k crowns and maybe zos will in the future take dyeing into consideration and release this as a motif instead

Magicka DK - PvP - BSW vs Silks

Seems that BSW gives more flame damage by a difference of 129. Now the question is, for a magicka DK where all your abilities do Flame damage, what is advantage to use one or the other? is because those Minimum 4 seconds you dont have the buff up you are losing more damage than if having all the time the 400 flame damage?

Could be that SOTS is more for pve and BSW for pvp? i thought that DKs need more like to burn down enemies quick and put preasure since they lack of executes, then why use SOTS?

KodiPvP, how does he do it?

Last night I watched Twitch live stream: "KodiPvP"

He played on PC North America with a DC character. Unknown which campaign.

Redguard, Stamina, DragonKnight, Vampire- sword/shield and 2 handed Sword

Warrior's Fury -heavy armor set- when you take critical damage you gain weapon damage

Werewolf Hide- weapons and jewelry set- when you take damage you gain ultimate

Weapon damage appeared to be 3,000-3,400 --- ? (I can barely break 2k!)

Ultimates: Spell Wall and Dragonleap

Stats appeared within normal range: roughly 10k magika, 24k health, 30k stamina (rough numbers, can't remember exactly)
Looked like immovable potions
Purple drink= health, stam, stam recovery

1. The guy stays calm during all fights (note to self* no more screaming, flailing, crying, and smashing keyboard..)
2. He has amazing movement and positioning skills
3. He did this all while chatting with his friend Jules and responding to comments live on twitch.
4. He fought solo and I never saw any tricks or "cheapy" maneuvers.
5. He did not have a stealthed NB ganker by his side nor did he have a pocket healer... (like so many others I encounter in Cyridil...)
6. He seemed to fight multiple opponents continuously.... and he kept winning.

I watched several times as his health bounced up and down like a yo-yo.. almost dead then back to full, back down to almost dead and back up to full....
At times there were whole groups on him and still he managed to keep moving (I always get CC'ed and then smashed).
I've been part of these groups all trying to burst down one player who seems invincible and it is super frustrating. Especially when he turn around and kills one or two like nothing...

What's the key here? I need to figure this out so I can get better.

So frustrating to be stuck in the minor leagues....

PS. I was not able to find any web page with his builds or "how to" descriptions, only you tube and twitch.

Thanks!
