When you get two noobies in group

$

So, everyone knows its a bad idea to use group tool for veteran dungeons if you wanna be done fast, but sometimes there is no other choice because people are just not available. Then sure you meet noobies. But noobies you can carry. I have no problem in doing that as long as its doable and not craddle of shadow or something similar.
But what if you get 2 noobies and both of them the kind that think they can do everything and that they are basically really good while they are actually really bad? Well thats the issue because neither of them is gonna vote to kick for the other one. Long story short what happened was we got into such a group and even as a group leader unable to kick both. They would run through, pull all the mobs AND the boss and die. And then we have to kill everything by ourselves because they are dead kilometers away no idea even where. After which they tell us that we are actually the terrible players (even tho we run vet trials HM etc and can solo/duo most dungeons) and they refuse to leave and keep pulling stuff and dying. We had to leave and wait the queue time to queue agai because they would not leave of course. I feel this vote to kick system is really stupid and should be reworked and made with more advanced options. To be able to actually kick two people.

Unrealistic to stop increasing monetization

Even if gambling in computer games is banned, it is very likely that games in the (near) future will be so advanced and amazing that game companies can sell exclusive memberships to owners of Platinum, Centurion, Palladium or Chairman credit cards. Not only selling items for $10 000, like we now see in Star Citizen, but also having a relatively large group of rich people buying these products, including gated communities, security packages, whole maps and dungeons. Average gamers are too atomized and passive to unite against this development. Consequently, it's most likely a waste of time and energy to protest against it. Ordinary players just have to accept this new reality (in the near future).

ESO could learn from Destiny

$

The Rise and Fall of Destiny that is, you could do a case study on that game.
-
Regardless of personal opinions, Destiny 1 was wildly popular with a massive population. At any given moment you would see forums filled with things like Shotgun builds are trash, Shoulder Charge is skilless, Quick Scoping is too OP, nerf the handcannons, heavy ammo is going to kill the game- endless complaining and debating about what classes were too OP. You also had weapons that (with some accuracy) were considerably better than others from time to time.... Suros Regime, Vox Mythoclast, Thorn, etc..... and again, and endless forum debate about the quest for balance.
Bungie made an effort to listen with Destiny 2, and give the forums what they wanted.. they took away "the cheese", they have several balanced very similar guns, none too much better than the others, those most complained about shotgun, magnetic grenade spam, etc builds are gone
and now so is the population. So you have Bungie scratching their heads, in a panic trying to reboot their franchise game and figure out why no one feels like playing it anymore..

ESO is on that cliff, I have played since launch, my build options are less and less, I have piles of nerfed golded out gear that are now garbage. there are less way to compete, effective options are fewer and your population is lower too......
I was a game tester for Microsoft a long time ago, like back when you actually had to live near Redmond and drive to their campus to test games. One thing I hope Zenimax knows is that Forums are Mostly Cookie Cutter Meta Players Complaining Because their Cookie Cutter Meta Build isn't Meta Enough. You hear it here constantly, if your a DK you "have to wear this", Sorcs "have to be this race", sometimes the difference in what you "have to do" and reality is so insanely small it's doesn't even register as a realistic statistic probablity over 1000 hours of game play.... Like a 3% damage boost, a few points of magika, a skill that hits for 100 more (who cares), if I hit you 5 times and you hit me 6, you win--- (even if I have that 3 or 4% or whatever) it's almost silly.

So what we have is the majority of our population all playing similar builds, which are supposed to be OP because it was essentially declared by the majority population to be OP, and anything that counters that trend, finds a niche or provides a superior counter ..... must be broken!
- Sheild Breaker is an example. Here was a set around for 2 1/2 years and no one really cared. Then Destro Ult's were introduced, the Sheild Stack Meta came into effect and all of sudden (after no one caring for 2 1/2 years) sheild breaker on lightning staff was this broken, cheating tactic. Never mind that your a magic build using a stamina set, and you utterly worthless against anything but sheild stacking characters. Think about that, your only good against one type of character in the game and all the rest will crush you, but the forum cry goes out and that set gets a nerf. Then sun sheilds, then stam proc builds, ... etc, etc. Your essentially doing what Destiny did to a degree, your taking feedback, thinking your giving the population what it wants, but like a child with candy, a child is going to make itself sick when it gets too much of what it thinks it wants.
- -- Weapon Ults are the same thought process. Two years ago, magic builds complained about Wrecking Blow Spammers, and Snipe Spammers, stam builds complained about Crystal Frag Spammers, (like Destiny Year 1) pretty much every build was in the forums complaining about a different build (which is actually good). Today in Cyrodil, the ever growing combat tactic is to stay alive, stay alive, stay alive..... then everyone stacks a bunch of Ultimates, (probably Eye of Flame). Yes, and I get how there is some individual who will say how they still play an amazing build, and something about zergs, but their is no denying a population change in the past two years, and it is a result of changes I think ESO thought were good... but in fact have pigeon holed players into less and less effective options.

You want the game to not be too harsh for new players, but when you make it so balanced that older players don't have anything to work for, then you lose your core.
THE PROPOSED CHANGE TO UNBALANCED- plenty of builds already use this tactic effectively and are in jeopardy because of a change where it is now the result of a heavy attack spam that is so easily done that you need to add an immunity? The real answer would simply to allow status effects to work on sheilded individuals, (since about 80% of PvP is always under a sheild).- but the outcry from the majority would be negative, so it is not seen as an option.

I guess the point is, do look at Destiny....
Do not give the people exactly what they want, when you see your forum population complaining about some weird build that tore them all up, embrace it and let a natural evolution save your game. You see it with Impen. For a while no one wore impen, then everyone is wearing impen, now again I'm noticing less and less) is the answer to say well since all these people who aren't wearing impen are dying maybe we should nerf critical attacks? No- I wish every case was looked at in this way, instead of what seems like a knee jerk reaction to appease the loudest voices in your ear.

As Game Designers you need to draw on the experience you have, you should know better than trying to appease all the lobbying in here, and remember when people stop complaining because some "trash player" managed to whoop whatever perfect Meta OP youtube "best in slot" build that is never supposed to lose- and it just lost, then it won't be long to people stop playing all together. because you've become Destiny 2.

sorry for the lengthy diatribe, it was therapeutic

Should I be running Netch, Juli, Necro or Mother's Sorrow?

I'll be running a pet build, along with Maw of the Infernal and 4 pieces of IA.

I've seen some pretty good parses from all of them except Netch, so given I won't be pushing for a vet trial leaderboard score does it really matter too much?

ESO just doesnt need evasion chances, thats what activly dodge rolling is for. just shoving shuffle and dodge rolling every so often on can really cripple any form of damage you can deal in most cases.
why cant we replace with with a chance to reflect?
its a defensive effect, same function as dodge roll, doesnt completely nullify the attacks, doesnt make dodge builds so bloody fustrating.
its a buff since it can help them deal damage instead of taking it, but a nerf since theres no more of this broken lingering dodge every projectile in that short time frame thing.

[MATH] PvP Defensive Set Comparison (Impreg, Brass, Pariah, Riposte, + more)

$

~~~~~Introduction~~~~~
This is a no nonsense analysis of defensive PvP sets. Every major update is inevitably accompanied by people claiming set x is super good without fully understanding how it works into damage calculations. Sometimes assumptions are right, other times wrong. I've attempted to make this as user friendly as possible and easy to understand to empower you to determine the best defensive set to suit your build and to counter your most common opponents.
Editable Google Sheet Link
(use any of the 15 tabs)
Video Tutorial and Analysis (read below for same thing in text)
image
TL;DR
Wizard's Riposte: The best set for any Magicka user. Provides highest or near highest damage mitigation in most scenarios and effectively increases shield size by 15%.
Impregnable: Superior stamina set when opponents have higher than ~55% critical chance and high penetration (good in no-CP, even better in CP).
Fortified Brass: Good in no-CP PvP where critical chance and penetration is naturally lower. Weak against nightblades.
Mark of the Pariah: Outperforms all other sets when less than ~68% HP.
~~~~~Tutorial for Self Analysis~~~~~

This box is the bare minimum that requires to be filled.
4bjMqq8.png

To assist you in determining these values you can utilise the three green boxes (totally optional). Modify the values in red and use the "Sum" to fill in the corresponding "INPUTS" values. Or simply make up approximate values without worrying about specific sources.
cQWJ5IQ.png

Your output will look something like this:
usGcLws.png
An important thing to remember when looking at damage mitigation is that a few percentage points difference between options can represent a significant amount of extra damage mitigated. For example if option A has 90% mitigation and option B has 91%, there may only be a single percentage point different, but that means option B is mitigating at extra 10% more damage then option A. Just something to keep in mind when looking at the seemingly insignificant differences of any of the blocking stats.

~~~~~My Detailed Analysis~~~~~
It's impossible to determine average input values with the wide variety of PvP in ESO. Duels, CP Cyrodiil, non-CP Cyrodiil and Battlegrounds will each have their own unique set of average critical chance, critical damage and penetration values. As such I want to stress the importance of performing your own analysis. My conclusions about set quality are affected by my own bias, I base my opponent stats on what mine are and subjectively adjust based on other factors (like how many NB's I verse, that increases the average critical chance and critical damage).
Wizard's Riposte
crsS3qy.png
Always highest or very close to highest mitigation. The 2-4 set piece bonuses make it the best choice for magicka users.
Pros
• Virtually 100% up time with no condition to proc.
• 2-4 set piece bonuses are amazing. WR gets all defensiveness from the 5th piece allowing utility bonuses 2-4.
• Can proc on damage shields and effectively makes them 15% larger (only way without CP to increase damage shield effectiveness).
• Group members benefit also.
• Can have active only on one bar and still achieve 99% up time.
Cons
• It falls into the minor/major buff system, so if anyone else is wearing WR or proc'ing minor maim (DK's, S+B users, frost users, Asylum staff users, NB's), the effectiveness of this set is significantly reduced.
• Only comes in light and arcane.
UTnYzQ7.png
Impregnable
SU6yPcX.png
The best all around defensive set for all PvP situations (primarily for stamina, but magicka user can wear just as effectively if another group member is already providing minor maim).
Pros
• All the defensiveness comes form the 5th piece bonus, which means 2-4 set pieces are great for your utility.
• Amazing against Nightblades who's critical chance, critical damage modifier and penetration are all very high.
• Comes in any weight and trait.
• No conditions to receive bonus.
Cons
• When versing opponents with low critical chance and low penetration (low skill zergs) this sets effectiveness is drastically diminished.
hXawGgd.png
Fortified Brass
nvZEcPr.png
The best set to use against low critical chance opponents (primarily low skill zergs in no-CP).
Pros
• Good for no-CP PvP.
• Craftable.
Cons
• Nightblade's are going to hurt even in no-CP.
• Performs poorly in CP PvP, especially against mid to high tier damage orientated players.
• Craftable.
l0lfhos.png
Transmutation (by popular demand!)
xvrtm8U.png
Is a good compromise between impregnable and wizard's riposte. It provides decent mitigation through critical resistance and very good magicka regeneration.
Pros
• A tank set AND a regeneration set rolled into one.
• Group buff.
• Very easy to proc.
• Can slot on only one bar.
• Amazing against Nightblades who's critical chance, critical damage modifier and penetration are all very high.
• Good alternative if minor maim is already being supplied.
Cons
• Won't mitigate any damage from a gank until you drop a HoT (this can be avoided by having slightly more HP on your transmutation bar and bar swapping to force a heal).
• Less mitigation then other sets discussed.
• Light and arcane only.
Armor Master
gJrDi5T.png
Provides more resistances and an additional 5% HP.
Pros
• Extra HP.
• Good for no-CP PvP.
• Higher resistances then FB.
• Craftable.
Cons (+FB cons)
• Conditional to activating armour ability. This hurts especially now we can't slot shuffle and immovable and toggle between the two to keep this set proc'd.
• 5% HP only on one bar.
• Craftable.
Mark of the Pariah
ogDS1BX.png
Provided you can keep yourself out of execute range, this is still an amazing tanking set. Being able to take damage as a PvP tank is an amazing way to draw agro, then at ~68% HP it outperforms all other sets analysed, and only keeps giving you more damage mitigation (great combined with vampire undeath passive).
Pros
• Huge resistances
• Jewellery drops in all traits.
• Good for no-CP PvP.
Cons(+FB cons)
• Have to take damage to receive 5th piece bonus.
• Heavy only.
t1vWsNZ.png
Blood Spawn vs 1pc Chudan + 1pc Pirate
f4s132c.png
Mitigation: In terms of pure damage reduction, Blood Spawn needs an up time of 92% to equal the Pirate + Chudan combination. BS likely won't help you in the event of being ganked, save for a lucky proc on the first hit. The very nature of a defensive proc set also means that it will sometimes be down when you get hit with an ultimate or an otherwise heavy hitting combination.
Utility: However, BS has absolutely amazing utility that PC sacrifices in order for 100% up time. The ultimate generation of BS (synergises well with a Dragon Knight) is unparalleled for a two piece and only just beaten out by the fifth piece bonus of Tava's Favor. The one piece stamina regeneration of BS also helps any build (apart from perma block).
Deciding: Does the stamina regeneration and ultimate gain of Blood Spawn outweigh the risks of it being down when you need it? If yes, wear Blood Spawn. If no, wear 1pc Pirate + 1pc Chudan. If you can't answer this question then don't worry, this dilemma cannot be solved by math, test them both out and find what works best for you.
Critical Resistance vs Resistance
Because critical resistance is not calculated as a percentage mitigation, but resistances are, there comes a point where an opponent with high critical damage modifier but relatively low critical chance would be best countered with a resistance set like Armor Master instead of a critical resistance set like Impregnable. Here is an example of this:
nswb4A8.png
*the values chosen here were done only to best demonstrate this phenomena.
**find this graph in tab "15 - Crit Resist vs Resist" if you want to play around with it.
So things that would effect this graph:
• Raising penetration will increase Impregnables' effectiveness.
• Raising critical chance will increase Impregnables' effectiveness.
• Raising base critical resistance will increase Impregnables' effectiveness.
• Raising base resistance will increase Armor Masters' effectiveness.
Ultimately, there are very few reasonable circumstances in which a resistance set out performs a critical resistance set against an opponent with high critical damage modifier. It is possible, as demonstrated here, but a slight increase in critical chance (5%) and penetration (2k) will see Impregnable beat out Armor Master up until critical damage modifier exceeds 1.95 .
~~~~~Calculations - NERDS ONLY <3~~~~~

The actual Google Sheet formulas are a lot more complicated then the ones listed below, as they include several IF statements in order to prevent situations like over and under penetration. Assuming resistance cap is 33150 and critical resistance conversion is /6800. Because the spreadsheet does not take into account CP and class passives, your actual mitigation will be higher then listed, but it will effect all sets equally so the comparisons between sets will remain valid.

Also for those brave enough to open this spoiler, I'm 99% certain my math is accurate, but if you notice any errors or something that doesn't "feel" right, let me know and I'll investigate. I first started working on this back when Morrowind dropped then forgot about it until CWC, so picking up and redoing the mess I made with formulas; it's possible I missed something.

Pariah Resistance =
5465 + 9414 * (1 - Current HP%)

Mitigation =
(Total Possible Damage - Actual Damage Taken) / Total Possible Damage

Total Possible Damage =
(1 - CRIT CHANCE) + CRIT CHANCE * CRIT DMG

Actual Damage Taken =
[1 - (BASE RESIST - PEN) / RESIST CAP * 0.5] * (1 - CRIT CHANCE) + [1 - (BASE RESIST - PEN) / RESIST CAP * 0.5] * CRIT CHANCE * (CRIT DMG - CRIT RESIST / 68 / 100)

Critical Damage Modifier =
Crit Dmg  - Crit Resist / 68 / 100

~~~~~Conclusion~~~~~
I hope this has helped people understand some of the nuances of damage mitigation in ESO and how it influences the effectiveness of our sets. If you would like homework give @paulsimonps Damage Mitigation: Explained post a read, covers the calculations a lot more then I did here. If you have any questions, naturally feel free to ask! Is there anything I can do to make this more user friendly? Did my explanations suck? Would love to hear from you!
Anyone else crashing a lot since Clockwork City?
Before the DLC, I was getting almost zero crashes. I mean, like one a week or something insignificant like that.
After the DLC was releasd, I get a few to several each day. I play for 6-10 hours a day, so it's not like I am constantly crashing, but it definitely is annoying, especially if you consider the obscenely long loading times (all of them, mostly the one before you get to character selection).
It might or might not be related to addons, which is something I cannot test, because there's no way I'm playing for half a day without them :D But considering I was using the same ones before, I'd say it's unrelated.
Anyway, has anyone else noticed significant increase in crashes to desktop since the DLC?
I am a PC player.
So, I thought I'd come to vent.
I had gone into the game thinking to get myself one of these event crate things, but I discovered to my disappointment that they're only for the GROUP dungeons, and only via the random dungeon finder.
Now, I never do those dungeons, because every time I do, they all end the same way. Team wipe after team wipe after team wipe. Bosses with attacks you can't avoid or block, but that will instantly oneshot you. Bosses with so much health that they take an hour to kill off IF you can manage to do it (usually after 20-30 wipes). In general, it's just not any fun, so I don't do them.
But, if I want to partake of the "event," I'm forced to do them, so I thought I'd give it a try again. After all, it's been a while since I last did one (before One Tamriel), so maybe things will be better?
So, I queued and entered a dungeon I'd not seen before. Some dungeon with Nords, Minotaurs and Fire Shalks. Of course, as usual the group was blitzing through as fast as possible, so I had no chance to read anything, or find loot, or look around for hidden things... but that really wasn't why I was there.
We battled through. Many of the fights were really hard, but we prevailed. Eventually, we came to a group of final bosses. Three of them, all ridiculously strong. We went in without a plan and wiped about 6 times. Finally, we got organized and went in properly and prevailed. I thought we were done, but no, there was "one" more boss, a magma atronach of some sort.
It proceeded to wipe the team over and over over and over over and over over and over over and over over and over over and over over and over over and over over and over over and over, with no end in sight. Every hit was oneshotting anyone it hit. Of course, there was also debris falling on our heads slowing and stunning us, guaranteeing we'd GET hit, so it oneshotted everyone over and over. As if that wasn't enough, it also conjured duplicates of itself, all of which were oneshotting everyone over and over and over.
After something like 200 wipes, I left. I hate to leave a group, but I'd been there nearly 6 hours being wiped over and over and over with no way to avoid or prevent it.
This is why I don't do these missions. They're stupidly difficult, and that was on NORMAL.
I'm especially disappointed because this is content, some of it quite spectacular, that I will NEVER do again. I wish they had made these a bit more reasonable at the "Normal" level. They could have made the current Normal level the "Veteran" level, and had a third "Elite" level that's the same as the current Veteran level. As it is, these missions are simply not accessible to more casual players, and I honestly don't see how less casual ones can even find these entertaining.
So, if there's a point to this, it's that there should be a lower difficulty level, at least on the bosses of these things. As it stands, they're too strong in pretty well every case I've seen.
1. Normal - New level, less powerful bosses.
2. Veteran - Same as current Normal level.
3. Elite - Same as current Veteran level.
With the event and grouping, there's bound to be some stories to share :) I'll share mine first.
Yesterday I was doing random dungeons on my alts, for boxes, and I was on my mag warden, decked out for DPS. We get Selene's Web (on normal). I notice no one is healing. We struggle through 2 bosses, and someone comments "great healing" (being sarcastic). I failed to notice I had both heals and dps checked! I apologized, I genuinely didn't see. I change my gear and equip heals, and end up healing the rest of the dungeon on the fly! One guy said 'its ok, that guy is just a ***'. Boy did I pull that one out of the pan! Luckily I was able to change enough abilities. I know it was on normal but Selenes is still a bugger.
Snares in this game are miserable, and not fun. Not only do I think they need to be toned down, but if you're going to have them they need to from non-damaging attacks. Right not it feels like snares are attached to everything just because.
another year, more bugs.
I wanted to start a post about what I would like to see change, I don't want to say nerf this class or buff that class, i just want parts of ESO that should work, to work, I also want to talk about something that is near and dear to my heart. but first, the bugs. considering it has been a year and I don't see much progress from the developers here is what I think.
LFG tool
so this thing if you have your role set wrong will tell you your role is set wrong, then when you change it it will keep telling you your role is set wrong even though you set it right. also you will have a full group, launch the LFG tool to get in a random dungeon, and everyone will say "ready" and the lfg tool will say someone didnt type ready and kick everyone out of the lfg queue 5-6 times. pretty frustrating.
lack of sound in cyrodiil campaign.
apparently this is a bug from launch that was fixed, and is now broken again.
when you go into a big engagement in pvp *suddenly* the sound completely goes out.
bugged trials
my memory is of hel-ra citadel. we had to turn back on the boss where the trial has to split into 2 groups. if you whipe at that particular point, noone on one side of the trial can respawn.
not sure if that was fixed, doubt it based on everything else still being broken.
near and dear to my heart:
people say I am crazy for asking for this, but I am not the only one asking, I can even provide links to everyone else who has asked or opened it for discussion both on and off the eso forums; but I don't want to just post a big old long list of links if noone is in to that. anyways what I would really be happy with (and alot of people based on the tally I have taken) is an option by the hide helmet option to "hide tassets" (the flaps that sit on your hips) some people have told me that "tassets are their own object." then left it like that but I don't even know what tassets being their own object is supposed to mean, from my perspective if they are their own object in an object oriented programming language, it should be easier to leave them out.
anyways let me know if some of these bugs are fixed or if there is a work around, as for tassets, well I think we are stuck.
