This one guy is Harassing a friend and our guild

$

So this one guy (I will not name a name until a developer deems it necessary) will not leave my friend alone. We were allies in guilds and such, but then he started to do stuff with his guild that we didn't approve of and so we decided to break the alliance. Now he is harassing a friend that block him, he messaged on our discord, made a new account to again message on our discord, then emails her stuff PRETENDING to be ZOS and will not leave us alone. We block him and he just makes a new account and he recently sent an email to my friend. When I say harass, he is saying that he is trying to get her banned, get our guild banned etc. We only didn't like how he started to run things by kicking his admins and such for the most absurd reasons. So we broke off the alliance and now says that it was all our fault when we did not do anything. We thought this blew over after the last encounter but the total time in having to deal with him has been 2-3 weeks or so. Any ideas on how to get him off our backs? I do not wish for any more conflict but I would like for him to stay away from our guild and my friends.

Pay to Win? The Math on Research Scrolls

$
0
0
So someone in another thread was complaining about Pay to Win Research Scrolls in the Crown Store, and I found myself thinking about the math of researching traits.

We all know there's nine traits you have to research for every item in the game and that research takes a really long time. So how much benefit do Research Scrolls actually give? How much time are you really saving with those Crowns? I didn't know. I wanted to find out.

How I set up the Math
I used the research times from here: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Traits and here: http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Research and my own math. I can't promise my math is perfect, so if I'm off by a little, have mercy.
Here's the hypothetical situation. You've got an addon that will automatically start research the new item the second the last item stops researching so you get optimum research time and we'll assume that you stay logged in at all the right times and such. Ideal world, here.
First things first, you level your Blacksmithing, Clothing, and Woodworking until you can get three important passives: Metallurgy, Stitching, and Carpentry. These amazing research passives reduce research time by 25%, limit research to 30 days, and let you research 3 items at once for each crafting discipline when they are maxed out for 4 skill points.
Ideally, you also have ESO+ for a further 10% research time reduction, but I don't have ESO+ because I'm cheap.

We'll research in a cycle. That means we research three items, all nine traits, then go onto the next 3 items, research all traits and so on.
Wood working has 6 items, so it takes 2 Cycles. Blacksmithing and Clothing both have 14 items, so that will take 5 Cycles. That means the total researching length of time is the length of 5 Cycles because we can research blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking all at the same time. Researching all the items will take 12 total cycles when it comes to figuring out cost of scrolls because those are unique to blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking.

Completing a Cycle
Well, according to http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Research the base time for a research cycle with no passives is 3066 hours/128 days. Therefore, to research all the traits in 5 cycles will take 15,330 hrs or 638.75 days or 1 year, 273 days.
With the Metallurgy, Stitching, and Carpentry passives maxed at 4 skill points, that base time for a research cycle is 1,867.5 hours/78 days. Therefore, the research all the traits in 5 cycles will take 9,337.5 hours or 390 days or 1 year and 25 days. Definitely grab those passives!
With passives maxed and ESO+, the base time for a research cycle drops to 70 days, 45 minutes, according to http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Traits. Again I don't have ESO+, so I didn't do a lot of math with it. This puts the lowest time for maxed research at about 350 days or slightly less than 1 year.

In-game 1 day Research scrolls
This scrolls available in game wipe 24 hours off the timer of any currently researching item or finishes it if ther timer is less than 24 hours. They have a 20 hour cooldown before they can be used again. Again, we'll assume that we have an addon that uses a scroll at the most optimal time (I tried not to waste too many hours of the scrolls) and automatically starts the next item researching. Also, I don't have ESO+, so I did my math using the research times with maxed passives (25% time reduction and capped at 30 days) but not the additional 10% of ESO+.
Working in cycles - the specific hours spent on each trait might vary if you decide to wait out research of less than 24 hours or if you want to use a scroll again as soon as possible. I chose to wait it out if the wasted time on the scroll would be 12 or more hours)
1st trait - 4.5 hours (better just to wait it out)
2nd traits - 9 hours (better just to wait it out)
3 trait - 18 hours (better just to wait it out)
4 trait - 1 scroll, 12 hours
5 trait - 2 scrolls (wasting 2 hours), 26 hrs
6 trait - 3 scrolls, 72 hours
7 trait - 7 scrolls, 120 hours
8 trait - 13 scrolls, 264 hrs
9 trait - 16 scrolls, 336 hrs

1 Cycle research time using my method under ideal researching but no ESO+ is 861.5 hours or 36 days.
Total research time (5 Cycles) is 4,307.5 hours or 179.5 or a little less than half a year.
1 Cycle requires 42 research scrolls.
Total research requires 84 Woodworking Scrolls, 210 Blacksmithing Scrolls, and 210 Clothing Scrolls, assuming they can be used as soon as they come off cooldown AND when most efficient. You might need a few less scrolls if its not efficient, or a few more if you choose to waste time on the scrolls by finishing certain items.
ESO+ would obviously shorten this time further and thus lower the number of scrolls needed.

Crown Store Research Scrolls
The Crown Store Research Scrolls come in 1, 7 and 15 day versions. They do not have a cooldown.
1 day scrolls - 400 Crowns
7 day scrolls - 2500 Crowns
15 day scrolls - 5000 crowns

Again you have the option to waste time on scrolls. Since this one involved much less math to find an optimal use of scrolls, I went ahead and did both options.
1 trait - wait 4.5 hours or 1 1-day scroll
2 trait - wait 9 hours or 1 1-day scroll
3 trait - wait 18 hours or 1 1-day scroll
4 trait - wait 12 hours and 1 1-day scroll or 2 1-day scrolls
5 trait - 3 1-day scrolls
6 trait - 6 1-day scrolls
7 trait - 1 7-day scroll and 5 1-day scrolls (ESO+ gets 1 7-day scroll and 4 1-day scrolls)
8 trait - 1 15-day scroll, 1 7-day scroll and 2 1-day scrolls (ESO+ gets 1 15-day scroll and 1 7-day scroll)
9 trait - 2 15-day scrolls (ESO+ gets 1 15-day scroll, 1 7 day scroll and 5 1-day scrolls)

So the cost in scrolls for 1 Cycle is either:
Patient People Price: wait 43.5 hours and 17 1-day scrolls, 2 7-day scrolls, and 3 15-day scrolls.
Impatient People Price: 21 1-day scrolls, 2 7-day scrolls, and 3 15-day scrolls
ESO+: wait 36 hrs 45 min and 19 1-day scrolls, 3 7-day scrolls, 2 15 day scrolls OR 23 1-day scrolls, 3 7-day scrolls, 2 15-day scrolls.

Total Cost for all researching is thus: (5 times waiting, 12 total cycles for all crafts)
Patient People: Wait 217.5 hours (9 days) and 204 1-day scrolls, 24 7-day scrolls, and 36 15-day scrolls = 321,600 Crowns
Impatient People: 252 1-day scrolls, 24 7-day scrolls, and 36 15-day scrolls = 340,800 crowns
Patient ESO +: wait 182.5 hours (7.6 days), 228 1-day scrolls, 36 7-day scrolls, 24 15-day scrolls = 301,200 Crowns (possibly a little lower depending on how patient they are on some of the later traits)
Impatient ESO+: 276 1-day scrolls, 36 7-day scrolls, 24 15-day scrolls = 320,400 Crowns

Conclusions/TLDR:
1. Metallurgy, Stitching, and Carpentry are super important if you want to research items, saving you about 250 days.
2. Super patient people who never use anything to speed up their research but are also extremely on the ball about keeping up on the research with take a minimum of 390 days (350 days with ESO+) to become a full 9-trait crafter. So, I predict that most players will take around a year and a half/two years to become a 9-trait crafter if they are diligent about researching or don't max out the passives right away which many new players don't.
3. The In-game 1-day Research Scrolls cuts down the time required by a little over half if you are using them as soon as they come off cooldown (assuming its optimal to do so). It will take approximately 84 Woodworking Scrolls, 210 Blacksmithing Scrolls, and 210 Clothing Scrolls if you do so (+ or - a few for differing methodology), so weigh that against the current cost of scrolls on your platform.
4. To completely wipe out your crafting in as little time as it takes to click on all those scrolls you bought from the Crown Store takes 300,000+ Crowns. That is the price of instantly becoming a 9-trait Crafter.
5. Using a combination of patience, in-game 1-day research scrolls, and Crown Store scrolls is probably the most cost effective way to become a 9-trait crafter in less than a year, but that would be a lot of math I don't want to do right now. If someone else wants to, that'd be awesome!

Final Thoughts:
Every hour a super patient person without ESO+ researches is worth about 34 crowns.
If you are going to go hog-wild and buy ALL the scrolls, patience saves about 20K Crowns. Save yourself the crowns.
it costs 300,000+ Crowns to become a Master Crafter with only Crown Store Research Scrolls. That's about $2000 if the crown packs aren't on sale (PC/NA prices).

As usual, if I've screwed up my math or misunderstood something, please feel free to point it out politely. As I've noted, some of the numbers of scrolls or exact cost might differ slightly if you choose to research items a little differently than I did when doing the math.

Guild is Being Harassed by Another Player

About a month ago, my guild allied ourselves with another guild (I will refrain from posting the guild's name or the name of the guild master unless asked by Zenimax). Things were going fine until about 2-3 weeks ago when the guild master began going through behavioural changes that were against our beliefs and own code of conduct. Both guilds have Discords and he began sending my officers inappropriate things that they found offensive. He started deleting anything and everything that was against him and even kicked one of my officers from his guild on, what I assume, is suspicion of sabotage. Reviewing this sort of behaviour with my officers, we agreed that we no longer wanted to be allied with them, and cut ties. So far, nothing we couldn't handle. Until he began harassing us. Sending members of his discord into our's to stir up trouble, messaging my officers to put them down, and (hopefully, this starts going into an area where ZeniMax can do something about this guy) began threatening to have my officers banned despite having no power to do so other than having the members of his guild do a mass reporting (which is abuse of the reporting system.) We blocked him on everything we could, but he would get on different accounts to message us and harass us further. He started emailing my officer that had the most contact with him, still threatening to have her and my guild banned from the game. After a bit, things started to quiet down, and I thought we could go back to normal. Until tonight. Now, I really hope that ZeniMax could do something about this guy, because he has gone as far as to pretend to have an official cease and desist letter from ZeniMax.

"Good Afternoon,

I was instructed by ZeniMax Media Inc. to send an official cease and desist notification to your primary email that I have on file, before action can be taken against your account. This is to notify and inform you to cease and desist all operations that involve the slander, defamation, and libel of
(Their guild name), as these actions can, and will result in action against your Elder Scrolls Online account, '(Name of my officer)'. This email is in regards to case number (Information removed).

ZeniMax Media Inc. specifically states in section eight, 'Rules of Conduct', in the 'ZeniMax Media Terms of Service' that: "You agree not to use any Service to: Take any action, organize, transmit any Content, effectuate or participate in any activity, group, or guild that is harmful, tortuous, abusive, hateful (including “hate speech”), racially, ethnically, religiously or otherwise offensive, obscene, threatening, bullying, vulgar, sexually explicit, defamatory, libelous, infringing, invasive of personal privacy or publicity rights, encourages conduct that would violate a law or is, in a reasonable person's view, objectionable and/or deemed to be in the sole discretion of ZeniMax inappropriate;"

The recent allegations that you have made against myself and my account, has resulted in minor damages in
(Their guild name)'s reputation, allowing me to file a case with ZeniMax Media Inc, specifically Zenimax Online Studios.

Please refrain from contacting me in regards to this case, as any replies will be forwarded to the team over at ZeniMax Media Inc."

Not only is does this scream 'fake' just from that fact that he is the one emailing my officer and not ZeniMax, but in quoting the Rules of Conduct, he has broken several of those rules through his repeated harassment, sending of inappropriate messages, bullying, threatening, and being overall a very disrespectful person. 2/24/18 Was the last time I personally had contact with this person and 2/27/18 was the last time my officers had any contact until today. So this is on him repeatedly attacking us and trying to take us down for simply not wanting to be allied with him anymore. I want this business done and over with and to move on, but they keep crawling back with new crap to fling at us. I'd take this up with a support ticket, but sadly they don't have anything for this sort of situation.

yes, a very naive melody :)

initially I had tried to kick off the conversation with questions on a bunch of random topics...

love to fight, carry scrolls, gank, defend, attack, pour oil on folks, repair keep walls til your fingers bleed - this is your thread...

love hearing big and little battle stories, as well as observations concerning the interaction between the alliances in this campaign - who doesn't love a good bridge fight...

big IC fan...at this point i wanna apologize right now for anything weird or crazy i may have done in IC (or for any future stuff)...I'm pretty laid back in cyro - IC has a way of getting me fired up on occasion...

hmmmmm, is it really true cyro reveals whom you want to be, and, IC reveals who you truly are...

if you want - say what's up, and if you like - let us all know what's up...

anyhow - enjoy, and, happy gaming trails...

bonus question: if any one knows where the reference "loose tales" (spelt differently) comes from - you'll win...ummmm, my undying admiration?

We could really use a few gestures of good will Zeni.

You keep telling us you want to increase the housing caps and have told us the current caps are because of performance issues. You never do explain how a small bank can hold 50 people all at once but a house can only hold, at MOST, twenty-four. We’d realllly like an explanation for this. But okay, we have no choice but to accept that this is true and the cap really IS twenty-four for a good reason. And you’re working on it.

HOWEVER, when you were first showing us housing you had more than 3 categories. The “largest” homes were called Estates and the houses just below them were called Notable homes. These homes were:
Stay-Moist Mansion
Old Mistveil Manor
Strident Springs Demesne
The Gorinir Estate
Mathiisen Manor
Forsaken Stronghold
Gardner House
Quondam Indorilia
Hunding's Palatial Hall
Dawnshadow

To this list I would also add the Amaya Lake Lodge.

These are BIG houses. Size-wise they are very nearly as big as the current Notable homes (formerly classed as Estates). It is absolutely silly that you can only fit TWELVE people into them when they are CLEARLY designed to hold far more.

You’ve acknowledged that the 24 player cap is too low and you are seeking to raise it. But you’ve given us absolutely no ETA on when that might happen...or even if it ever will. You charge top dollar for housing and we pay it… mostly gladly.

So this is what I’d like to see as a gesture of good will towards your players: Raise the cap on all of the above listed houses to 24. There’s no reason why they can’t accommodate that many players. This does NOT cheapen the value of the current far more expensive 24 player homes. It is an acknowledged stop-gap measure to make your players happy while you work on raising the caps overall. And honestly? You’ll make a pretty penny on it if you do it. Then when you CAN raise the caps overall, you can go back to having the current 24 player homes still having the highest player caps, whatever that number ends up being.

Of the remaining 12 player homes, please raise them to 18...which is not a huge increase at all. This adds value to all of these homes at no cost to you and will actually generate some quick profit. Leaving the item count higher in the current Notable homes will still give them an edge over these.

Players are really disappointed with the current state of housing, even those of us who keep buying them because they are beautiful and fun to decorate. Please show us you actually care by giving us something that you can do with very little effort to show that you are in earnest about improving this situation. It would go a long way. Please consider it.

Item the second… please roll out a pack that unlocks ALL the existing haircolors in the game like you did with the base game hairstyles and makeup/scars, etc. Put a reasonable modest price tag on it if you must like you did with those other two things. And leave it up permanently as an option in the store if you go that route. It’s just silly to have things like hair colors be race locked. Ditto eyecolors. Heck, do it with skin colors as well and acknowledge the TES lore that states that while a child will appear to be the race of its mother regardless of the race of its father that it MAY show SOME traits from the father as well.

Item the third… please acknowledge the TES lore AND the lore of your own game that clearly shows that some vampires ARE capable of hiding their condition and looking like normal mortals and make such a skin available for vampires. Add a Stage. Require a new passive unlock. Or, yes, even put it in the store. It is WELL past time for this.

Item the fourth… PLEASE give us a day/night toggle for housing, a way to lock our lights so no one but those with decorator privs can turn them on or off, and EXPAND the permissions we can set so that we can designate more than one house as our primary. Add a “public” choice so that we can open more houses to more players...which will in turn fuel player house sales.

ALL of these are EASY things to implement, rely on things already in the game for the vast majority of them, and will even generate more revenue for you. But most importantly they would show that you are listening to your players and that you genuinely WANT us to be happy with your product and are willing to take action to make it so.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Anyone purchase the Erstwhile Sanctuary furnished? Are there any cool furnishings included? And, anything unique that is otherwise unobtainable?

To me it looked mostly like wooden furniture and basic lighting.

Trying to figure out whether the furnished option makes sense to consider, and if I'm missing something because it doesn't seem to have a lot of value compared to other furnished houses that I have seen.

Veteran Banished Cells I HM - Soul Blast

$

0
@ZOS_Finn

The final boss in Banished Cells I has an ability called Soul Blast (or something similar--I don't recall its exact name). The boss picks a player at random, turns towards them, and launches a projectile that, if unblocked or undodged, will knock the player down.
  1. This ability ignores taunt since it targets players at random.
  2. This ability has virtually no warning/telegraph. He turns and immediately fires, and players only have a split-second to react. It's very difficult to avoid even for players with good ping and FPS and is impossible to avoid for players who don't.
  3. The damage from this ability is extremely high. With a CP-capped magicka character wearing 5/1/1 with 19.5K health (and that's with the help of the tank's Ebon buff), the ability hits for 19.1K and is just a sliver shy of a 1-shot. But for many characters, particularly those who don't have the extra mitigation and health of a CP-capped player and the help of an Ebon buff, the ability is a 1-shot, and for most players who are not fully topped-up on health, it's a 1-shot.
  4. In contrast, Rilis's other high-burst ability--his heavy attack--has a clear telegraph and a sufficiently long windup to allow a player to react and get their block up. That ability also respects taunt.
  5. In contrast, Nerien'eth's big skull attack and Skoria's fireball attack, which are the closest analogues that I can think of (they too ignores taunt, do a tremendous amount of damage that can potentially 1-shot, and knock the player down if the player survives), both have clear cues and sufficiently long windups to allow a player to react and either dodge or block.

Mechanics should reward skillful play.
  • If the ability respected taunt, then it would reward groups with a competent tank, but it ignores taunt.
  • If the ability did less damage, then it would reward healers who can react quickly, but in its current state, it is often a 1-shot, and there is nothing a healer can do about it.
  • If the ability had a reasonable warning, then it would reward players who are paying attention and who can react to avoid damage, but unlike almost other all the high-burst boss abilities in the game, such as his heavy attack, Nerien'eth's big skull attack, or Skoria's fireball, this ability does not give anyone a reasonable amount of time to react.
Changing any one of these would make this boss ability more interesting and promote skillful play. But until that happens, this attack is nothing more than a case of poor artificial difficulty and RNG punishment.

PS: As someone who frequently tanks, I'm really not a fan of abilities that ignore taunt, as they just call into question why the tank is even needed. I've done the Rilis fight without a tank, and it's not any more difficult because his heavy attack has enough of a warning that a DPS can block it in time, and this Soul Blast ability ignores taunt. And Rilis is not the only offender. For example, the Whisperer in Spindleclutch I and the Spawn of Mephala in Fungal Grotto II both have an ability that is almost an exactly like Rilis's. They'll turn to a random player and quickly fire off a ball that hits hard and knocked them on their back. And as a tank, it's very frustrating to see that happening and knowing that there's absolutely nothing that I could do about it.

Block casting in 2018 has only gotten worst.

$

It’s 2018 and block casting is still a problem, if not, then it has only gotten worst. While ESO has made a tremendous amount of improvements over the years since day one, it’s still not at a point where builds can be diverse. All the potential is available, but block casting hinders diversification and player skill in PVP.

Since day one block casting has existed, however before there was maybe one or two players in cyrodiil at a time that utilized it. Four years later, whole Zerg balls of Dks, Templars, and wardens abuse block casting shamelessly.

Going through the threads you would be convinced that the general player base was ok with block casting and you maybe correct. To be honest even I have two block casting builds a stam warden and a mag DK, and I can even say for myself that I can see the seduction to use it. On my Stam warden when I reach execution range I hold block and use healing spores to replenish my health unmolested. On my DK most of my rotation can be used while blocking allowing me to deal maximum dps on another player with ease. In both instances I have improved my characters survivability at the cost of stamina but, no skill or strategy to be used. The pros and cons are imbalanced I can’t be CC’d, I take a reduction in damage, and the buff to block cost last patch has only made it better. Even though I can be dotted I still have burst heals that make the idea laughable.

Block casting is so effective most people in cyrodiil are using it. If you are one of those players not using block cast you are either skilled and or giving other players a handicap. Playing on XBox pvp Vivec campaign you could see whole Zerg balls running around mostly made up of block casting builds. You could argue that it is just a well put together team, but in reality it goes against ZOS’s intent for more spread out and skill based pvp. In reality these are one button warriors using each other as a crutch. They are still a Zerg.

If block cast remains I honestly don’t see eso becoming balanced, so it is time for block casting to go. If anything healers should be restricted from casting heals like breath of life while blocking in order to add more strategy to group play in cyrodiil.

I am writing this because I love eso and I would like to see eso grow, but I don’t see this block casting trend keeping PVP alive for much longer and all the day one players I know still play the game for pvp content. Most if not all pver’s I knew are gone. So it would be in ZOS’s best interest to give it an honest thought. Let’s be done with block casting once and for all.

Lack of questing with friends hurts this game

This is coming from a person that purchased the physical Imperial Edition (the Molag Bali statue is awesome!) but the one thing that ruins this game for me and friends is lack of questing together on Xbox NA server. Not sure if this problem is on others platforms.

Friends and myself are not purchasing any DLC (some friends have simply traded the game in now) due to not being able to quest together.

There is a share option for the quest leader, but when shared it does not put me or others in the "quest". I can follow them but not see what the objectives are. Such as in Glenumbra when following the dog around. I completed the quest but when "helping" a friend with the quest the dog was not there for me, just my friend.

I could careless about the experience, gold, or quest rewards. I just want to quest with my friends and enjoy the game.

Why in the heck would Zenimax do this? Neverwinter allows questing with friends.

Am I doing something wrong? Friends doing something wrong?

When I first saw Zaan I thought an up close melee ish (tanky) build would be best. Let ya keep up close and deal just enough damage to kill with Zaan.

I did not like how this played out, it allowed a lot of players of counter Zaan or recover afterwards (in fact you can see it in some of the clips)

I much preferred a more offensive build that just used Zaan as constant pressure, I like the idea of a sorcerer because of Wrath, when Zaan gets opponents down, wrath finishes them. It's also nice to have Curse proc during Zaan (and frag)

Obviously NBs and DKs can really utilize Zaan with their natural high damage and built in Roots.

I elected to use frost staff for reach over encase. I found it much easier to use and damage is always welcome (I suppose those with Master staffs could have a lot of fun!)

The very high mobility of sorc makes keeping Zaan in range easy. And even if they break Zaan that doesn't mean you can't just wait for the next.

Detect pots are your best friend

There's also the huge advantage of procin Zaan when you're on the backbar, you're dealing massive damage and can easily barswap into offense.

What other set kills when you're hard CC'ed?

The biggest counter is using Zaan, because you can't tell it's not your Zaan you end up eating quite a few ticks before you realize wtf is going on
