Self-Sustain as Tank: Your go-to Gear and Ability choices?

$

I definitely felt the heat doing self-sustain on two fights in VSO HM this week. Though hopefully folks will have some self-sustain guidance that can be used in a variety of situations.

Specifically for me, it was holding the Troll/adds at back door during Lamia fight, and holding Lamia/Manticore during HM last boss. The Lamia fight it was “decent,” but certainly more close calls than I’d like, since the second I go down it’s a whole team wipe. I could hold the Lamias in last fight, but when the Manticore comes in i wasn’t able to self-sustain (he hits so damn hard!).

So for your OP tank gurus’s, what are your go-to self-sustain sets/skills in these, or similar situations? I can see this even being useful when you have perhaps a poor healer in the group and need to be self-reliant.

Note: Im a DK Argonian tank. I was using Dragonguard/Plague Doctor/Bloodspawn, but I’m sure there are much better combinations out there. I also normally use Balance, but it seemed to leave me too vulnerable going solo with no healer. After a couple runs one of the healers came back and stuck with me w/ Lamia/Manticore. I honestly don’t think I could do it without a healer, but was told by someone group that rear tank is usually self-sufficient so they can keep both healers on team (not sure how knowledgeable he was though..). If so, I definitely have my work cut out for me.

So to you hearty and experienced tanks, please help this Padowan!

So many beggars asking for gold and most of them are not interactible. Just listening to their prayers while being unable to respond. All we can do is to ease to their grief with a swift blade of woe. Any chance that more beggars will be given a dialogue option with a Gift of Charity passive granted?
I miss so much the old Morrowind where this was giving +10 Speechcraft for 3600 seconds.
Here we could get +10% to prices when selling items at vendors or anything like this.

You keep telling us you want to increase the housing caps and have told us the current caps are because of performance issues. You never do explain how a small bank can hold 50 people all at once but a house can only hold, at MOST, twenty-four. We’d realllly like an explanation for this. But okay, we have no choice but to accept that this is true and the cap really IS twenty-four for a good reason. And you’re working on it.

HOWEVER, when you were first showing us housing you had more than 3 categories. The “largest” homes were called Estates and the houses just below them were called Notable homes. These homes were:
Stay-Moist Mansion
Old Mistveil Manor
Strident Springs Demesne
The Gorinir Estate
Mathiisen Manor
Forsaken Stronghold
Gardner House
Quondam Indorilia
Hunding's Palatial Hall
Dawnshadow

To this list I would also add the Amaya Lake Lodge.

These are BIG houses. Size-wise they are very nearly as big as the current Notable homes (formerly classed as Estates). It is absolutely silly that you can only fit TWELVE people into them when they are CLEARLY designed to hold far more.

You’ve acknowledged that the 24 player cap is too low and you are seeking to raise it. But you’ve given us absolutely no ETA on when that might happen...or even if it ever will. You charge top dollar for housing and we pay it… mostly gladly.

So this is what I’d like to see as a gesture of good will towards your players: Raise the cap on all of the above listed houses to 24. There’s no reason why they can’t accommodate that many players. This does NOT cheapen the value of the current far more expensive 24 player homes. It is an acknowledged stop-gap measure to make your players happy while you work on raising the caps overall. And honestly? You’ll make a pretty penny on it if you do it. Then when you CAN raise the caps overall, you can go back to having the current 24 player homes still having the highest player caps, whatever that number ends up being.

Of the remaining 12 player homes, please raise them to 18...which is not a huge increase at all. This adds value to all of these homes at no cost to you and will actually generate some quick profit. Leaving the item count higher in the current Notable homes will still give them an edge over these.

Players are really disappointed with the current state of housing, even those of us who keep buying them because they are beautiful and fun to decorate. Please show us you actually care by giving us something that you can do with very little effort to show that you are in earnest about improving this situation. It would go a long way. Please consider it.

Item the second… please roll out a pack that unlocks ALL the existing haircolors in the game like you did with the base game hairstyles and makeup/scars, etc. Put a reasonable modest price tag on it if you must like you did with those other two things. And leave it up permanently as an option in the store if you go that route. It’s just silly to have things like hair colors be race locked. Ditto eyecolors. Heck, do it with skin colors as well and acknowledge the TES lore that states that while a child will appear to be the race of its mother regardless of the race of its father that it MAY show SOME traits from the father as well.

Item the third… please acknowledge the TES lore AND the lore of your own game that clearly shows that some vampires ARE capable of hiding their condition and looking like normal mortals and make such a skin available for vampires. Add a Stage. Require a new passive unlock. Or, yes, even put it in the store. It is WELL past time for this.

Item the fourth… PLEASE give us a day/night toggle for housing, a way to lock our lights so no one but those with decorator privs can turn them on or off, and EXPAND the permissions we can set so that we can designate more than one house as our primary. Add a “public” choice so that we can open more houses to more players...which will in turn fuel player house sales.

ALL of these are EASY things to implement, rely on things already in the game for the vast majority of them, and will even generate more revenue for you. But most importantly they would show that you are listening to your players and that you genuinely WANT us to be happy with your product and are willing to take action to make it so.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

FPS drops and game slowing down since Dragon Bones

Game stuttering, FPS drops, latency spikes, global cooldown INCREASE! I have been having these issues recently. At its worst the game slows down to such an extent that I cannot barswap unless I spam the button, and the global cooldown actually increases! It is absolutely destroying group content experience and is seeming to affect others I speak to.

These are not occasional issues for me, it is constantly affecting my game since Dragon Bones released. I had (for example) a solid 30-50fps on Valariel pre-Dragon Bones with every setting at max and reshade running. I now get between 4-10fps at medium settings, no fancy effects, no reshade. Latency spikes also which did not occur before. Happening mainly in populated areas and during group content. I have tried everything, even repairing the game. I am not having these issues on other games I play, and my internet is running consistently well at 62mb download, 18mb upload and circa 5-7 latency. In game latency is currently between 60-110.

PC specs:
Intel i7 8700k
32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB 3600
Asus GTX 1080 Ti ROG Strix OC
Asus ROG Strix Z370-E
Samsung 960 Evo M.2 1TB

No overclocks etc, running Discord and TTC in the background. Dropped addons and disabled Discord and TTC but same issues still occur.

Anyone else having these issues? Any chance for a comment or update from ZOS please ZOS_GinaBruno

Looking for inventory management ideas

Despite having a maxed bank and ESO+ I find myself usually with a full or near full bank filled mostly with CP160 set pieces that I may someday use (lol.) I occasionally get ruthless and decon bound heads and shoulders because I tend not to use those (except on healers) and put non-bound up for sale just to make space. I also have several of my 15 characters I don't play much as mules for things such as siege equipment, duplicate recipes waiting to go for sale, soul gems, lockpicks, maps and writs waiting to be used, etc.

I haven't gotten around to using housing storage chests yet but I'll get around to maxing that sometime soon I'm sure.

I actually dread going in there and spending all the time I know I'l have to spend organizing, sorting and culling the hoard. One of the reason I spend more time playing lowbee alts than on my 10 CP720+ characters is that I don't have to hassle with their gear management: I just decon or vendor all their gear as I replace it.

So I'm looking for ideas. How do you guys handle it? What have you ended up putting in your house storage? Any add-ons you can recommend for managing gear sets? Anything really...

Quests are too... casual?

Yeah, I guess some would say that quests ARE MADE for casuals, but c'mon.
The stealthy way quests are easy due to NPC's braindead behavior (hello, Balmora questline, where guards are in error 404-mode 24\7).
The puzzle quests are way too easy due to the their six-years-old-schoolboy complexity.
Combat - mkay, combat part of quests is mostly ok, though on 160cp being properly geared up those feel too ez as well.
And not to mention lil' to no diversity in most of the quests. Big ones are more or less mkay in that aspect though.

Am I the only one feeling that quests should be a bit more challenging?

Anyhoo, cheers and have a nice day everyone.

Can we get rid of the ridiculous pull-back-into-meteor already

No, I'm not talking about dk chains. Since the DB patch I constantly get pulled back into the area hit by meteor in sort of a reverse knock back, sometimes from quite a distance. During the pull back the character goes into a horizontal position and completely stops responding, no CC break or anything works. Seems to be some really weird sync issue.

This is on PC.

PS4 NA server Vivic.

Did the developers intend for an alliance that is large enough too field enough members to fill both AD and EP alliance at the same time (or at least enough) to work as one team? I know the developers have commented in the past this should not be happening but I guess there is no stopping it. It seems like a few regular crowns get upset if there side is not winning so they resort to locking up two alliances (always AD and EP on PS4 NA) or at least fielding enough players in two alliances to effectively out number DC 2 to 1. I don't believe this is a valid tactic because its essentially allowing the one group of players to defeat the player cap (exploit???) and bring up to twice the numbers to a fight. So if each alliance can bring in 100 (I don't know what the player cap is its just an example) people... well this team has the potential to field up to 200 members against a team with only 100 members, they predetermine one color will be first and what color will be second place.

Zenimax has said no alliance should be working with the other and to be clear this is one group of people logging in to two separate alliances with the intent of working as one team. should Zenimax just take out the 3 teams and just make it two teams to keep this from happening or should the alliance lock be put in place? pick your color and all your char. are locked in until the campaign is complete? The above could still happen with alliance lock but it would at least be harder to constantly work as one team.

last I couldn't give two [snip] who wins or looses as there really is not much left in this game worth anything as broke as it is and cyrodiil really is just killing time for me until game I'm waiting for is released but every now and then there can be some good fights but never when this crap is happening.

Solutions other than insults, alliance lock or reducing it to two teams?

Werewolf Theorycrafting (PvP)

Became a little inspired when I saw a few theorycrafting-threads here on the forums and decided to start another one, but this time about werewolf-gameplay in PvP. There´s a great guide/thread about werewolf which you can find here:

https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/384516/ebony-wolf-pack-werewolf-101/

However, it would be interesting to see what insights the community has regarding these creatures and what we can do to help/improve. To narrow it down a little bit I thought it could be good to have some questions to work with:

* What assets do we´ve in order to dps/deal damage, and how can it be improved?

* How can we make sure we´re tanky enough to stay alive in a fight?

* How do you tackle sustain (both magicka and stamina) as a werewolf?

* How much can you trade damage for survivability and still be effective? (Damage VS Sustain VS Tankiness)

* Werewolf VS other classes? How to handle certain classes while in WW-form.

* Group-play VS Solo?

Try to include as much as possible. Everything from gear, potions, poisons, enchants, class, race etc.....

Try to keep this thread a theorycrafting thread and not a "nerf/buff"- thread (unless it´s relevant for the topic)

Pay to Win? The Math on Research Scrolls

$
0
0
So someone in another thread was complaining about Pay to Win Research Scrolls in the Crown Store, and I found myself thinking about the math of researching traits.

We all know there's nine traits you have to research for every item in the game and that research takes a really long time. So how much benefit do Research Scrolls actually give? How much time are you really saving with those Crowns? I didn't know. I wanted to find out.

How I set up the Math
I used the research times from here: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Traits and here: http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Research and my own math. I can't promise my math is perfect, so if I'm off by a little, have mercy.
Here's the hypothetical situation. You've got an addon that will automatically start research the new item the second the last item stops researching so you get optimum research time and we'll assume that you stay logged in at all the right times and such. Ideal world, here.
First things first, you level your Blacksmithing, Clothing, and Woodworking until you can get three important passives: Metallurgy, Stitching, and Carpentry. These amazing research passives reduce research time by 25%, limit research to 30 days, and let you research 3 items at once for each crafting discipline when they are maxed out for 4 skill points.
Ideally, you also have ESO+ for a further 10% research time reduction, but I don't have ESO+ because I'm cheap.

We'll research in a cycle. That means we research three items, all nine traits, then go onto the next 3 items, research all traits and so on.
Wood working has 6 items, so it takes 2 Cycles. Blacksmithing and Clothing both have 14 items, so that will take 5 Cycles. That means the total researching length of time is the length of 5 Cycles because we can research blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking all at the same time. Researching all the items will take 12 total cycles when it comes to figuring out cost of scrolls because those are unique to blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking.

Completing a Cycle
Well, according to http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Research the base time for a research cycle with no passives is 3066 hours/128 days. Therefore, to research all the traits in 5 cycles will take 15,330 hrs or 638.75 days or 1 year, 273 days.
With the Metallurgy, Stitching, and Carpentry passives maxed at 4 skill points, that base time for a research cycle is 1,867.5 hours/78 days. Therefore, the research all the traits in 5 cycles will take 9,337.5 hours or 390 days or 1 year and 25 days. Definitely grab those passives!
With passives maxed and ESO+, the base time for a research cycle drops to 70 days, 45 minutes, according to http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Traits. Again I don't have ESO+, so I didn't do a lot of math with it. This puts the lowest time for maxed research at about 350 days or slightly less than 1 year.

In-game 1 day Research scrolls
This scrolls available in game wipe 24 hours off the timer of any currently researching item or finishes it if ther timer is less than 24 hours. They have a 20 hour cooldown before they can be used again. Again, we'll assume that we have an addon that uses a scroll at the most optimal time (I tried not to waste too many hours of the scrolls) and automatically starts the next item researching. Also, I don't have ESO+, so I did my math using the research times with maxed passives (25% time reduction and capped at 30 days) but not the additional 10% of ESO+.
Working in cycles - the specific hours spent on each trait might vary if you decide to wait out research of less than 24 hours or if you want to use a scroll again as soon as possible. I chose to wait it out if the wasted time on the scroll would be 12 or more hours)
1st trait - 4.5 hours (better just to wait it out)
2nd traits - 9 hours (better just to wait it out)
3 trait - 18 hours (better just to wait it out)
4 trait - 1 scroll, 12 hours
5 trait - 2 scrolls (wasting 2 hours), 26 hrs
6 trait - 3 scrolls, 72 hours
7 trait - 7 scrolls, 120 hours
8 trait - 13 scrolls, 264 hrs
9 trait - 16 scrolls, 336 hrs

1 Cycle research time using my method under ideal researching but no ESO+ is 861.5 hours or 36 days.
Total research time (5 Cycles) is 4,307.5 hours or 179.5 or a little less than half a year.
1 Cycle requires 42 research scrolls.
Total research requires 84 Woodworking Scrolls, 210 Blacksmithing Scrolls, and 210 Clothing Scrolls, assuming they can be used as soon as they come off cooldown AND when most efficient. You might need a few less scrolls if its not efficient, or a few more if you choose to waste time on the scrolls by finishing certain items.
ESO+ would obviously shorten this time further and thus lower the number of scrolls needed.

Crown Store Research Scrolls
The Crown Store Research Scrolls come in 1, 7 and 15 day versions. They do not have a cooldown.
1 day scrolls - 400 Crowns
7 day scrolls - 2500 Crowns
15 day scrolls - 5000 crowns

Again you have the option to waste time on scrolls. Since this one involved much less math to find an optimal use of scrolls, I went ahead and did both options.
1 trait - wait 4.5 hours or 1 1-day scroll
2 trait - wait 9 hours or 1 1-day scroll
3 trait - wait 18 hours or 1 1-day scroll
4 trait - wait 12 hours and 1 1-day scroll or 2 1-day scrolls
5 trait - 3 1-day scrolls
6 trait - 6 1-day scrolls
7 trait - 1 7-day scroll and 5 1-day scrolls (ESO+ gets 1 7-day scroll and 4 1-day scrolls)
8 trait - 1 15-day scroll, 1 7-day scroll and 2 1-day scrolls (ESO+ gets 1 15-day scroll and 1 7-day scroll)
9 trait - 2 15-day scrolls (ESO+ gets 1 15-day scroll, 1 7 day scroll and 5 1-day scrolls)

So the cost in scrolls for 1 Cycle is either:
Patient People Price: wait 43.5 hours and 17 1-day scrolls, 2 7-day scrolls, and 3 15-day scrolls.
Impatient People Price: 21 1-day scrolls, 2 7-day scrolls, and 3 15-day scrolls
ESO+: wait 36 hrs 45 min and 19 1-day scrolls, 3 7-day scrolls, 2 15 day scrolls OR 23 1-day scrolls, 3 7-day scrolls, 2 15-day scrolls.

Total Cost for all researching is thus: (5 times waiting, 12 total cycles for all crafts)
Patient People: Wait 217.5 hours (9 days) and 204 1-day scrolls, 24 7-day scrolls, and 36 15-day scrolls = 321,600 Crowns
Impatient People: 252 1-day scrolls, 24 7-day scrolls, and 36 15-day scrolls = 340,800 crowns
Patient ESO +: wait 182.5 hours (7.6 days), 228 1-day scrolls, 36 7-day scrolls, 24 15-day scrolls = 301,200 Crowns (possibly a little lower depending on how patient they are on some of the later traits)
Impatient ESO+: 276 1-day scrolls, 36 7-day scrolls, 24 15-day scrolls = 320,400 Crowns

Conclusions/TLDR:
1. Metallurgy, Stitching, and Carpentry are super important if you want to research items, saving you about 250 days.
2. Super patient people who never use anything to speed up their research but are also extremely on the ball about keeping up on the research with take a minimum of 390 days (350 days with ESO+) to become a full 9-trait crafter. So, I predict that most players will take around a year and a half/two years to become a 9-trait crafter if they are diligent about researching or don't max out the passives right away which many new players don't.
3. The In-game 1-day Research Scrolls cuts down the time required by a little over half if you are using them as soon as they come off cooldown (assuming its optimal to do so). It will take approximately 84 Woodworking Scrolls, 210 Blacksmithing Scrolls, and 210 Clothing Scrolls if you do so (+ or - a few for differing methodology), so weigh that against the current cost of scrolls on your platform.
4. To completely wipe out your crafting in as little time as it takes to click on all those scrolls you bought from the Crown Store takes 300,000+ Crowns. That is the price of instantly becoming a 9-trait Crafter.
5. Using a combination of patience, in-game 1-day research scrolls, and Crown Store scrolls is probably the most cost effective way to become a 9-trait crafter in less than a year, but that would be a lot of math I don't want to do right now. If someone else wants to, that'd be awesome!

Final Thoughts:
Every hour a super patient person without ESO+ researches is worth about 34 crowns.
If you are going to go hog-wild and buy ALL the scrolls, patience saves about 20K Crowns. Save yourself the crowns.
it costs 300,000+ Crowns to become a Master Crafter with only Crown Store Research Scrolls. That's about $2000 if the crown packs aren't on sale (PC/NA prices).

As usual, if I've screwed up my math or misunderstood something, please feel free to point it out politely. As I've noted, some of the numbers of scrolls or exact cost might differ slightly if you choose to research items a little differently than I did when doing the math.

Hammerdeath Arena?

$
0
0
I guess this has been brought up before, but it doesn't hurt to do it again.

Hammerdeath Arena in Stormhaven, obviously a place meant for dueling - why don't people go there? Why are these "duelists" hanging around the wayshrine in Mournhold and other major cities, literally harassing random people with dueling invites, and more or less draining server power by dueling in these probably already overloaded areas? And I mean, standing among guild traders while 4-5 couple of people duel all around you? I mean, ffs... It's really, really annoying. Frankly, I don't think you should even be able to duel inside city walls, it's pretty stupid really.

I duel once in a while, sometimes I do it with some friends, but I don't really fancy random duel invites (I know I can turn it off, you don't need to tell me - but then I need to turn it ON if I want to do it) when I'm on my tank, my healer, my crafter or some PVE damage dealer. I mean, if I'm on my Battlegrounds/PVP toons, be my guest.

So: To all these eager duelists, why don't you hang around Hammerdeath Arena, you could duel for hours with likeminded people - instead of harassing low levels and random people busy with all sorts of things? Maybe that's part of the thing? Pick on easy unsuspecting targets? I noticed I rarely or hardly ever get any duel invites if I'm using some of these Battlegrounds titles, so I guess that's it. People generally like to win, and pick what they deem easy victims.

I'm sure quite some people don't even know about this arena place, but check it out and spread the word among duel enthusiasts. Many of us really wouldn't cry if we didn't need to see you around all these major city wayshrines, if you get my point.
