If you had the power to make a single change to the game...

What would it be? Not grand changes that require whole new systems or anything. I mean something small like, "nerf X skill," "buff X skill," give Templars a proper self-cast armor buff, allow duo queue in BGs, etc. Something easily described or explained in one or two sentences.

Rich Lambert's stance on perfected master and maelstrom weapons

For the people who are wondering about the origins of that car quote that was thrown around the forums, it originates from Rich Lambert himself. A friend of mine had a discussion with him on discord on the day ZOS posted the update 26 combat preview. The thread in which I originally planned to post this got nuked earlier this week (https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/527600/ive-never-seen-a-worse-pts-in-my-life/p1), so here you go:

By now, I guess this is the closest thing to an "official" explanation that we'll ever get. And no, I'm not naming and shaming, I asked my friend if its ok to post this on the forum:

The last person involved in this conversation, Slashlurk, is Rich Lambert, creative director and ZOS official. You can see him here on the official eso discord: https://discord.gg/elderscrollsonline
I hope this clarifies stuff. If ZOS wants to give me a forum ban for posting this, so be it. Cheers.

Edit: fixed the discord link.

Before I watched this, I knew it would sound familiar. As it is the way MMORPGS are managed.

This is not an eso problem. It is an MMORPG problem. You will see in my forum history, I have brought this type of stuff up. I wanted to make YT vids on MMO economies and lifecycles. However, I am too lazy to fully write a script and make the vid. I said in one of my post, "If someone finds the formula to keep an MMO alive, they may be given an nobel prize" because, at that point they would have solved an age old economic problem. NO MMO has found this solution. NONE. At 50 years, they might have something. At 100 years, they are close. At 200 years, pass out the nobel prize.

Now here is the video I was talking about.

Change the b-word (lol) with ZoS and see if it hears familiar.

Since MMOs can't have an end....holy crap...wait a minute is this an MMO problem or an internet engagement problem?
Think about it, even facebook can be seen to be the same....

You see, facebook, they keep you engaged by chaining you to a never ending scroll of data. They use things like likes, notifications, etc to keep feeding your brain short highs. You sustain the short highs by continuing to scroll down the endless texts and photos. Your brain is trying to consume it all but it can't. Your brain get's use to grabbing these short highs and it spills out into the real world. Facebook IS a DRUG....

Why do you think tiktok is so popular? Instead of watching 30 min vids, you can consume the short vid, get the high, and move on to the next....who has tiktok here? Who has facebook here?

I quit social media way back in 2014. MMOs will incorporoate what facebook did to our brains and look to make short term goals to give us a high. Then remove it and switch it to another.

The intenet, has made our brains more impulsive. Facebook is gathering the data we happily give away to create the ultimate use case for advertising. This will then be able to predict more than what you want to buy. Facebook will sell this persona (i don't know what it's called a human representation of data) to other companies and it will be incorporated into MMOs, Vid Games, Movies, EVERYTHING!!! Sorry I forgot google is doing the same as well....

Facebook created their dating app for that, google created stadia for that reason as well. It's all for your data. Once they have that persona, they can start making the MMO lifecycle extend passed 200 yrs. They won't need your feedback, they got the feedback from your raw unfiltered comments, thoughts, lust off the internet. (google was speaking to a prominent adult site for their data. They probably made a deal to use their YT algorithms to see what parts people are interested in)

When they obtain what you lust for, what you pay for and what you think....They have your decision making as a human....

Oh and I forgot, simply getting off the internet won't stop this. They have cameras in supermarkets that track peoples movements. AI can spot your face. Walmart, BestBuy, WholeFoods, etc will share the data with each other mark my words.

Presidential polls will be a thing of the past. They will predict easily with the persona.

I can't believe I didn't see how this all ties together...

They called me a madman...

Prioritize performance fixes?

Should the devs temporarily stop whatever new content they are doing and get all hands on deck to tackle the extremely poor performance the game has had lately? Spinning enemies, constant crashes/disconnects, low fps, desync issues everywhere, abilities not going off etc

Read the release patch notes for Greymoor and I'm very dissapointed that I will not be able to queue with my friends for BGs yet.

I know that premades can be a problem but why not implement 2 queues? One for groups and one for solo.

Certainly a lot of people feel like me because they talk about it in-game a lot, but I wanted to take this topic to the forum because ZOS isn't really addressing this game-breaking issue for many.

avoid "COMPLETE" message before update/maintenance is really complete

I think ZOS must run several tests before any "COMPLETE" message. They should try to avoid so much frustration of people who are keep paying a lot of money for any new chapter...

Never been as torn about how to start a new chapter

Should I start with the questline and explore the region? With my main or a new character? Should I focus on leveling Antiquities first? Should I focus on the trial first and start farming that? Should I wait for the first avalanche of players to pass?

What are you going to do once the chapter releases?

REALLY?

Server down for 2 hours now with no ETA in sight so it could be a few more hours because the new chapter was free for everyone? How could such a large issue be allowed to be released into live? What testing if any if being done before these patches are pushed out?

What compensation will we be receiving for the game being down most of the day when it was promised to be released at 08:00?

Is it only I who get a dejavu feeling every time the servers are taken down? That something they didn't think about happens that creates issues. Makes me wonder if they even have a plan and a patch when they take down the servers. Or old workstations that now are servers or whaterver underdimensioned hardware ESO is running on.

Update 26 Combat Preview

Greetings Gang!

We’d like to take a moment to share a preview of combat updates coming with Update 26 (Greymoor). The full list of changes will be revealed with the patch notes next week, but for now we’d like to provide some insight on our goals. This update is primarily focused on reinforcing itemization standards, improving quality of life for werewolves, and a few adjustments regarding PvP balance. As many of you are already aware, the team recently experimented with some significant changes to Light and Heavy Attacks. We’d like to again thank everyone who participated in the off-cycle PTS test of those changes, and remind you all that those changes will not be included with Update 26. Today, we’ll be focusing on the other changes that will be appearing next week on the PTS for Update 26.

U26 not only has Vampire updates, but Werewolf updates as well! We want to keep the “in your face” action of the Werewolf and also want to add rotation options when you’ve transformed into this ferocious form. For example, Pounce now has a follow up attack afterwards that also has an execute scaled on Bleed. We’re also making adjustments to allow buffing and debuffing to give a sense of being a pack leader. Sustain for werewolves is also something we noted needs an adjustment, so Hircine’s Bounty now has some added functionality if you’re already at full health and don’t need the heal from the ability. We believe these changes will keep the Werewolf playstyle competitive and entertaining for all players!

About a year ago, we started our standardization pass and we’re finishing that off in U26 with Monster Masks/Shoulders. Remember standards aren’t written in stone, but we now have equal measures of power and performance from these 2 piece sets; some are having their 1 piece adjusted to better suit the function of the set. Valkyn Skoria, for example, now gives Spell Penetration rather than Max Health as this is a damage-based set.

Other sets are receiving functionality adjustments (damage values, trigger conditions, cooldowns, etc.) to follow their intended functionality based on their sourcing. A good example of this is Tremorscale: enemies hit by the damaging effect of this ability are no longer snared, but instead have their Physical Resistance reduced. To help with performance, some sets are having their “chance to proc” removed and instead now have a cooldown. Again, we’ll look at Tremorscale as an example: we are removing the proc chance from this set and increasing the cooldown damage. Note that because the cooldown is increasing, the damage is also increasing.

Continuing on itemization, we are also introducing Perfected Veteran Maelstrom and Perfected Dragonstar Arena weapons. This has been a long standing request by the players, and it finally brings these two arenas up to par with others that add Perfected versions. These are earned by completing Veteran mode in each of those arenas and will have additional bonuses much like other Perfected sets. Completing Maelstrom or Dragonstar Arena will now grant Blue versions of the non-perfected weapons from these arenas. In this pass, we are making a few adjustments to ALL Arena weapons to meet standards. One example of this is the BRP weapon set Spectral Cloak: this item set now increases your damage done and reduces your damage taken whenever you deal damage with Blade Cloak, rather than granting Major Protection for 3 seconds after casting. This fits the concept of Blade cloak as it deals with damage as well as protection.

Lastly, in this update we are making some small adjustments to Critical Resistance and Healing affecting PvP specifically. Over the years, we’ve seen healing become quite volatile in PvP with the ability to negate a high amount of damage in just 1 ability cast for many players at once. This isn’t just 1 ability that causes this type of health bar swinging, so we are making adjustments to Battlespirit which now reduces healing taken by 60% instead of 50%.

Gearing up for PvP isn’t a simple task because of the need for Critical Resistance. The other issue regarding itemization in PvP is that it’s very limiting due to the need for building Critical Resistance. This means other popular traits and builds aren’t as viable in PvP unless you’re a glass cannon or top-end player. To bring more viable stat and set combinations into PvP play, we are now granting a baseline Critical Resistance. In conjunction with that change, we are making several adjustments to item sets which grant Critical Resistance. We also are making changes to the Impenetrable trait by reducing the value.

We hope these updates enhance your day to day adventures in ESO, and we’ll see you in Tamriel! We look forward to your feedback regarding the changes above, as well as item sets and your general playtesting experience when Update 26 hits PTS next week!

Unable to activate Greymoor Physical CE

Unlike many others, whose Greymoor didn't ship, I got mine on time, but I cannot activate the game with the game code received in the box.

If I try to redeem my code on Steam, the code is rejected with a message saying it's invalid.
On the website, the code is rejected because I have a subscription tied to Steam and it cannot be activated there.

I've created a ticket about it 200525-003158 yesterday. I realize it's a short period, but I'm in the same boat and I would like to be able to play the game when it launches just like the others who haven't received the game at all. I'm hoping pinging directly here would draw attention to the ticket because it's not in the same category as the other Physical CE tickets since it's not the same type of issue.

Would you be able to help @ZOS_BillE ?

Unpopular Opinion: Killable Guards

$

Elder Scrolls Online is one of the few mmos out there where guards are not killable.

This would be fine if you couldn't accidentally steal items, or be a Necromancer and use abilities.

Guards should be killable. Sure, they don't need to be an easy encounter, but sure enough you should be able to put up a fight and fight them.

One problem:
Adding Necromancer for example and forcing them to get a bounty for using skills is not that great since Guards just walk up and wack you and usually instantly kill you

Great Examples of Guards:
Look at games like World of Warcraft. Guards dismount, root, slow, and stun you. You can kill them, but if you fight 10+ you usually start to go down.
In Comparison:
We don't need to make it so 10+ to kill you, but we can at least make Guards have more utility and fit into the city? For example, why don't guards give you directions to things, why don't guards answer questions, why aren't the intractable unless they want to kill you?

In Summary:
Make guards killable, tune them to be like a mini boss fight, something you really should run away from, but can fight if you really want to.

I've seen a guard get zerged down by 15 players, get to 0% hp, do a mass AOE hit them all for 90k and instantly kill all 15 players... Why is this a thing?
Our thieving system would be cool, but it feels more punishing than anything else with unkillable god-mode guards.
