What is considered direct damage? Considering Bloodthorn

I am wondering what is considered direct damage to proc the Bloodthorn Set? Is that a single target ability with no dot like Whip? Or would a single target dot count too?

From their website:

If you want a taste of the shadowy powers the new Crown Crate season has to offer, you can earn up to three free Scalecaller Crown Crates simply by playing The Elder Scrolls Online! To acquire these new items, log into the game and defeat any enemy creature (monsters, bosses, or even enemy NPCs) every day, from Friday, March 9 until Sunday, March 11.

This is drug dealer speech. The first one is always free. That is all...

I played this game in the beta, and recently bought the game. Today i decided to give it a go. I seem to be starting on the Firemoth Island, which isn't the starting area for my race. Atleast according to the information i have gotten. My race is the Khajiit. The game didn't let me pick an area to start in. I would like to start from the original starting area. Is this even possible? Or is it pointless to do?

Now that we're almost almost 2 years old, I figured it might be a good time to update this post. :)

The Blackbriar Barter Co is a high volume trading guild (PC-NA) usually located in Mournhold.

- 500 Fun & Helpful Members! Low on Drama!
- We are about to start our *10th* year as an MMO gaming guild (we originated in LOTRO as Brandywine Brewing Co)
- This is our 2nd ESO trading guild
- Huge weekly Raffles, auctions and regular guild events

If you're a highly active trader, shoot an in-game mail to @BBCGuild and request and invite to "Blackbriar".
While I'll try to watch for requests in this thread, that's the best way to get our attention.

We often have a small waiting list but generally get people in within a week.

Happy Trading!

Is mechanical acuity bad in PvP?

Theorycrafting about a vP setup that could also works for dungeons, i looked at mechanical acuity. Easily crafted. easily back-barred, good for PvE. But with all the impen running around in Cyrodiil, this set is bad for PvP, right? Or it's still good for a reason i don't understand?

Mid-Month Limited Offers

Hey! I've finally been able to log back in after issues with the internet/site and I really didn't want this to be my first post, but here we are

Crown Store items never used to be limited time only. Not most of them, anyway. Now everything seems to be! Normally I'd be ok with it but there seems to be a lot of Mid-Month Limited Offers. I know a lot (Maybe most?) People get paid at the start or end of the month. Surely it makes more sense to have these deals then or, ideally, just run them for the month like they used to.

The only reason I can consider they do it this way is because; a) Limited Time makes people grab it when they can. So quick money and b) because they will be in future crown crates and the less people that own them the more crates they'd sell.

That's fine, I get it. I just can't help but feel ZOS would actually make more money by leaving the items up for sale for longer than 4 days.

I might be in a minority, I just wanted to share my thoughts :)

Shall we continue to be patient, brothers?
Is there more that will be shown?
Or are we hoping to reap the rewards
Of that which has not been sown?

We have seen how the farmer waits
For the precious fruit of the plains:
Being stout and patient about it,
Until he receives the early rains.

Still houses come and costumes go,
As Zenimax takes your gold.
Yet we C U do little
But wrap new skins upon beasts of old.

How did you become a tank?

There are many reasons why some choose to go as a tank in dungeons and such. To lead the charge and protect once allies. Or in a more realistic term, to be the enemies punching bag.

I recently found myself in the position where I was sort of forced to be the tank, and by recently I mean like 1 hour ago. xD
Turns out a dps/dd had qued as tank. But as soon as I saw the bow on his back I questioned that, and he sure was not taunting. With a sword and shield being my choice for arms I had unlocked the Pierce Armor ability, meaning I was able to taunt. So not seeing any other option I just charged at the enemies and taunted away. To avoid being sloppy I like spammed the ability for taunt. xD Taunted everything really, even though an ESO tank doesn't have to and perhaps shouldn't taunt everything. Just the more important mobs like bosses and the once that just do a lot of damage.

However as this run went well, as in no one died and it did not take forever. I feel quite okay that I went in as "acting tank". I think I shall que as a tank in the future. I mean it went well, and felt pretty okay. I prefer going as dps/dd. That way you can kinda just chill in the background while tanks and healers do all the real work. Tanks and healers just have so much to do and a lot to think about. Not always easy keeping everyone alive through a dungeon or trial etc.

So that's my story how I became a tank.
Now I'm curios how did you tanks out there become tanks? Did you choose it? Or was the choice made for you. As in my situation. If you choose it, why did you choose it?
Sure I could have left the dungeon, but you won't get any XP from that.

(Oh and of course an added bonus. Dungeon que is probably a lot faster if you que as tank, yay! :) )

Against my better judgment, I will give this one last go. I believe that, for the most part, the discussions have been fun and enjoyable. I feel that I've gotten to know some people on other factions a bit, and it is cool being killed by someone you recognize! :) Anyway, let's stick to talks of builds, funny stories (like the time I got jumped by 8 AD as I rode across the bridge and they bashed me to death as I fell out of my chair laughing), map strategy, which in game snacks you prefer, and of course... Ice trebs.

Would you be mad if with the new chapter ZOS would make "Any race, any alliance" base game?

"Scamp's" Pulse attack (volatile familiar) DOES NOT increase with Thaumaturge (+ some insight)

$

People often are saying on pet build guides that we should stack thaumaturge for scamp as well because it increases the damage of its pulse attack. Well, it's not increasing AT ALL.

I ran the test by putting 31 points in thaumaturge, then I removed them and I reallocated the points to "Piercing" (the one from the same constellation as thaumaturge that increase the physical penetration, just so I could see the tooltip on scamp pulse attack, that does "shock" dmg - although the animation effect doesn't look like shock dmg at all, I have to check if it really is). Anyway, the dmg remained the same, both the regular attack and the pulse attack was dealing the same amount of damage, on tooltip and on the target, I always close/open the UI just in case if the tooltip is bugged as well.

When I move those 31 points to master at arms instead, both attacks got higher (the regular attack and the pulse attack).

This is problematic because the description of the pulse itself suggests that it's a DoT. Although the damage on the mob/target is white instead of orange.

Why I mentioned the color of the dmg not being orange? Because thaumaturge was increasing Atronach base attack (the one that appears orange on the target, the fallen damage is still affected by master at arms, and the AoE attack from Charged Atronach as well).

Thaumaturge is also increasing the orange damage from lightning staff heavy attack
While master at arms increases the white damage from lightning staff heavy attack.
(I just run all of those tests, thaumaturge is also increasing the damage from entropy - mages guild skill - that is shown orange as well)

So, that lead us to believe that thaumaturge only affects orange color dmg types, while master at arms increases white colored dmg types. Right?

NO! Liquid lightning and wall of elements displays white colored damage numbers, but are affected by thaumaturge exclusively.

So to me this is really problematic.
To summer it up:

First of all, the pulse attack from scamp (volatile familiar) doesn't work as a DoT, it's a direct hit dmg type instead, and it's shown white colored.

The regular attack from scamp is a direct hit as well, and white colored as well.

^ Both the regular and the pulse are affected by master at arms exclusively

On the other hand, the StormAtronach, that its base attack is orange colored and it's affected by thaumaturge (although imo should be a direct hit and be white colored instead, but things are starting to get a little crazy anyway)

Although the base/main attack from Atronach is orange/"DoT" type, the fallen dmg from when it's summoned and the AoE attack (from Charged Atronach exclusively) are still white colored and affected by Master at arms as a direct hit, which is Ok and right

To go against the DoT = orange dmg, there is wall of elements and liquid lightning, that displays a white colored dmg type but are considered DoT (they are scaled by thaumaturge)

Also, I've just remember to mention that Staff Expert only affects the orange colored dmg from lightning staff, the "Dot" one that is also affected by thaumaturge as well. The white colored dmg from lightning staff heavy attack is affected only by master at arms, NOT scaling from staff expert - which I don't think it's fair since the staff expert should increase everything from the heavy attack I guess

Where would you currently rate classes for PVP?

$

We all see the talk about how X or Y is top dog, but there are a lot of classes that people don't talk about, and I'd like to see where people feel they fit in, along with what you are playing for context.

Personally as a Battlegrounds player, my list would be

Magblade, Stam Warden > Strong in pretty much every circumstance, has access to a wide variety of options
Stamblade, Mag DK, Magplar > Strong in general, but tend to have more limited gameplay options
Stamplar, Mag Sorc, Magden > Versatile, but not as strong in general as above classes
Stam Sorc, Stam DK > Most limited classes, don't really do anything that other classes don't already

Of course there are going to be exceptions, as this is generalisation, and one mostly based on my experience. I don't really feel like any of these classes are explicitly broken, or underpowered, just that in the current meta, some classes are doing better than others.

So let's see your list, I want to see just how wrong I am.

Why do I Suck as a stamblade

Looking for serious constructive criticism, but I fully expect some flames and sophomoric responses as well =).

Background:
A. I play in no-CP cyrodiil and BG's. So throw CP specs out the window.
B. I run 2H/Bow with Willow's Path and Bone Pirate for sustain. 1.3 mag recovery / 2.4 stam recovery and 20K/10K/30K stats on health/mag/stam respectively
C. I run your standard 2H bar - executioner, surprise attack, ambush, mass hysteria, rally : incap
D. I run a somewhat standard bow bar - poison inject, vigor, relentless focus, shadow disguise, Flex [my flex is either pierce mark, shuffle, shadow image, or rapids depending on situation. core is shuffle though for the most part]
E. I run your standard nirnhoned 2H with poison/disease enchant and Bow is infused weapon damage
D. I run almost exclusively solo. Most of my issues below are 1v1's. I'm looking on how to deal with classes.

My Issues:
1. Shadow Image - This ability is raved by the "pros" and I frankly find it terrible. First, I have to have a target to use it. If acting reactively, it is extremely hard for me to get the shade up while trying to dodge-roll/vigor cloak into heals with target at back. But more imporantly, even if i get the shade up.. it's a 28 meter range. 28 METERS> this is beyond awful except for the most niche of spaces. I can't tell you how many times the shade is either out of range, LOS'd, or the cooldown at 20 seconds has already passed by the time I hope to use it. If I use proactive before engage, I find it always is out of range or de-summoned by the time I need it. I just frankly suck balls with this skill.
2. Being Marked - I find myself routinely being hunted in cyrodiil by a pack of nightblades. They will run together in 2 to 4 man groups and they notoriously place piercing mark on me. Mark plus multiple nightblades is just insta death for me. And slotting purge for this outcome seems very niche/impossible as that flex spot is usually shuffle for me. 1v1 against nb i feel ok. even 2v1 it is possible but unlikely. But marked with multiple just seems impossible.
3. Stam DK - I read how this class is a joke. I guess i'm a bigger joke then. Because when i engage stam DK 1v1 this is how fight goes. Volatile armor return my range, venomous claw/noxious breath at short range with light attack weave. Wait for take flight and boom - executioner / good night Vienna. Oh - and throw in some 4K heroic slashes for good measure. Meanwhile my damage hits for paltry sums of 2 to 3K and is easily healed through / negated. Mass hysteria into an incap, sure that does soften them up pretty good... but never into kill range. never.
4. Templars - Usually soften them up pretty good on the open. Then they reset fight to full heals.. stand in their own heal pit. Proceed to purifying light my face while destroying me with perma snaring jabs or puncture sweeps. eventually ended with DBoS while being javelined. Again, mass hysteria into incap does some good things in this fight but they are so damn tanky they just heal through it.
5. Sorcs (the no pet kind. I believe they are stam). A good sorc is running 21 to 22K health with another 8K in shields. My open does little except take care of the shield and maybe another 5K of health. They dance around, blink here and there... avoid and patiently wait. When ready - CC into curse / crystal frags. Good night Vienna.
6. Magblade - lol, this one isn't even close. fortunately i almost never see them. but when i do - wow. It's not even a contest. They shake off any upfront damage I do and proceed to just light attack/swallow soul weave my face. leeching as they go in and out of stealth. eventually incap and mad burst --- good night Vienna. Some will lay a path down and just sit in it while doing the weave strat I noted above. their sustain and leech heals... wow. hits as hard as i do but heals them.
7. Mag DK - almost never see this. i guess i'm just looking for advice on this one in case i do. i know these are the flame whip boy bands... but again - i just never really see them.

I find my most success is against wardens and other nightblades. I feel comfortable fighting them. DK's and Templars are just ridiculous sustain and mitigation. Easily resetting fight and then wearing me down. Sorcs are usually ok but the high end ones that know what they are doing... I feel like I have little to no chance.

Thanks for any and all advice. New to the game and looking to improve.

If you could steal any ability in the game for your main, what would it be?

You have the opportunity to take any class ability from any class and use it on the character you are playing now.

The ability retains all of its original attributes (you can't make a magicka ability a stamina one) but you cannot bring over any class passives.

Personally, I'd love to have Biting Jabs on my Stam Sorc. Even without burning light, I feel like it would be an amazing damage tool in PVP, and given that Stam Sorc lacks any damagaging abilities of its own, I feel like it would be the strongest choice.

Hi, so at the end of most dungeons, my game crashes... when I start a trial with 12 people, i travel in and my game crashes.

mid-way in the trial/dungeon, my game crashes... this never used to happen but happens a lot lately and i'm not sure how to fix it? Whenever it crashes, i'm in a PS4 party and I don't get disconnected so it is not my connection?

Do i need to delete some files or something through the PS settings? Or does anybody know how I can fix this? Like I said, this only start the last week or so and now it won't stop.. Thanks!
