Alright, so I feel it's time to ask ZOS to buff a skill that actually sees use, but only by newer players. I'm talking about the sorcerer's Clannfear pet, a morph of the Unstable Familiar Pet. You see a lot of these with newer players, most likely due to its appearance and it being a self heal available early on. I admit, when I started playing my sorc a few years ago, I chose the Clannfear cuz he's a cool purple lil dino-thing. Before he could even heal! But due to gaining experience in the pvp and pve parts of the game, the cool little guy isn't as great as it seems. Now to guilt trip ZOS to buff the little guy...
Now, I'm not asking this without some suggestions and ideas for the Clannfear. Before I say them, let me show what the dino does:
Unstable Clannfear: Command the powers of Oblivion to send a daedric clannfear to fight at your side. The clannfear's attacks deal X Physical Damage plus an additional 15%. The clanfear can also tail swipe nearby enemies. Once summoned, you can activate the clanfear's special ability, healing you and the clanfear for 35% of your Max Health. (From Fextralife)
I wanna point out a couple issues with this guy's damage and whatnot. One is that this pet is a magicka-based pet, but he deals
physical damage. Like the other sorc pets, his damage scales with max magicka. This is an issue with the physical damage, though. The familiar, twilight, and atronach pets all deal shock damage, which benefits from magicka-based Champion Point branches and other buffs to magicka. The other issue is that heal... A lot of players average 15-20k health. A heal based off a percentage of health doesn't benefit most players who would use the clannfear. The heal is also extremely costly. Without any cost reduction passives or enchants, it costs a whopping 7290 magicka. That's a lot!! On the other hand, the Wing Twilight heal is about half that. I'm pretty sure you all can see that there's some big design issues with this pet.
So!! I wanna propose a couple changes:
- This guy needs to either deal shock damage or magic damage. This way his damage benefits from magicka-base damage modifiers like Champion Points and is more conducive with magicka.
- Get rid of the heal!! And replace it with a special kind of damage.
- The Clannfear morph could retain the pulse damage but now has more health.
- Another possible damage ability is that leap ability wild Clannfears were given awhile ago. Perhaps the leap can target a random enemy and damage them for x-amount of magic/shock damage, giving the Clannfear burst damage.
I personally like the last option. So, I'll type it out like the Fextralife description.
Unstable Clannfear (proposed): Command the powers of Oblivion to send a daedric clannfear to fight at your side. The clannfear's attacks deal X Magic Damage plus an additional 15%. The clannfear can also tail swipe nearby enemies. Once summoned, you can activate the clannfear's special ability, where the clannfear targets the enemy it's locked on and leaps at them, dealing X Magic Damage and stunning them for 2 seconds.
This ability can be blocked, and the stun would be short, considering sorcerers have a pretty long stun from another skill. It would not stun CC-immune NPCs or players, but it would still damage. It would deal direct damage, and would scale off max magicka, as well as Master-at-Arms and Elemental Expert.
I just want the cool little Clannfear to be more versatile other than being an extremely expensive heal and low-damage pet compared to even the Winged Twilight and Twilight Matriarch.
@ZOS_GinaBruno I hope the sad dino moves you guys's hearts!!
